Stronger, Longer Hair Challenge

If you have natural hair or relaxed hair, you can do twists or braids as a protective style.  Over my years of being both relaxed and natural, I have tried so many different styles. I wore these styles most in the summertime because I did a lot more physical activity, it’s hot, and I wanted to swim!

This still goes for today! Anytime I want a week to 2-week break, I wash my hair and get to braiding or twisting. Braiding lasts much longer than twists but I still opt for both. I make sure I take care of them so they don’t get frizzy fast!

Sometimes when you twist your hair, it shrinks up a lot and may not stay well, especially if you have very soft hair. If you have fine hair, you may want to go for braids. If you have thicker hair, you can do either. Whichever you decide to do as a protective style, make sure you moisturize!! Try out an oil moisturizer, like Optimum Care’s Whipped Oil Moisturizer and put that on prior to doing your braids or twists. After they are done, you can use an oil sheen like Optimum Care’s Mineral Oil-Free Sheen Spray to give your hair a nice glossy finish.

If you want to add thickness to your twists or braids, you can add bulk hair extensions. If you do this, you need to make sure you don’t start the braids or twists very tight at the roots. You want to make sure you avoid breakage by pulling very hard.

Do you ever braid or twist your own hair? How long do you usually leave them in?

I say 2 weeks. I’m threading my hair now, so i’m so excited about that. I prefer threading over braiding

I twist my hair and either 1) wear it in twisted up do or 2) wear twists for a few days..and twist outs for a few days.

I just uploaded a hair tutorial on this style. Unfortunately, my two strand twists don’t last long at all ( ie, 4 days), no matter the product used, size of the two strands, how I sleep, etc. It’s not a big deal to me anymore because I just chalked it up to the variations of hair textures I have.

2 weeks but my hair is very soft and fine so it begins to fuzz out after 2 days even with protecting it at night :/ People always hype about “good hair” but I love and am jealous of the longer staying power of tighter curls!
