Ask a Very Smart Brotha Live: Morning Fellatio & Sister Wives

April 13th, 2012 - By madamenoire

Toya: Hello Damon, I have a guy who has sat for the cable guy for me, fixed my car, went shopping with me, etc. Do men do things “just because” to be nice or is he waiting to smash me?

Damon: I don’t have any kids yet, but I (kinda) hope to one day. If this happens, there’s a 50% chance that this kid will be a girl. Before I send her out into the world, I’m going to say “Come here, little 5 year old Damona” and leave her with this bit of advice:

“Assume that EVERY. SINGLE. THING. a man does, nice or not nice, cool or awkward, kind or unkind, is done so that he can get into someone’s pants. Yes, little Damona. That is the latent reason behind EVERY. SINGLE. THING. men do.

Earlisha’s letter sounds so dumb, I momentarily wondered if it was made up.  When she said this guy she likes “expressed” his interest in her, I thought she meant verbally.  So, when she said he was holding her hand and kissing her forehead, I hit that like a speed bump.  I guess I’m just from another era because who lets someone put their lips on them to “express an interest’?  AND she knows the guy is living with another woman, but he’s giving her that worn and frayed line, “Well, we don’t have sex” and she’s going for it.  The “mother of his child” – because that sounds more clinical – will probably end up pregnant, then Earlisha will feel betrayed.  Dum-dum.

I am in the same situation as Bree, and I never even thought of looking at it as the “love” that I feel for my ex is just there still because a small part of me still HOPES we can work it out, when clearly we cant so what is the point of being in love with him anymore. Great Advice that I needed to hear!

Come on MN! Copy edit your posts! The last question posed by Earlisha is just riddled with errors, i.e, “boy friend,” “conferrable,” and plenty of missing comas and/or periods. Aside from the annoyance of having to click multiple pages to read posts, is the distraction of my internal Grammar Check going off because sentences don’t make sense. Maybe you do not care how you appear to the online world, but proper grammar and sentence structure is vital to quality reading experience.

Once again, the Champ nails it! I love your advice! Stephanie’s issue hit home for me today. I really needed to hear(read) that advice. You make a sista want to bake you a cake, Damon!

For Dani, whose boyfriend is showing signs of depression, aside from removing herself from the relationship, I would suggest to encourage him to seek counseling or some mental health support network. Depression is a serious matter and can lead to more serious behaviors.
