CNN Explores Race in Education

The way people grossly underestimate children never ceases to amaze me. Children are people, with brains that develop at a much faster rate than ours. Sure every once in a while they may say things that will catch us off guard but we should never underestimate what they are and are not able to comprehend.

We re-learned this lesson in the clips from CNN’s upcoming special, “Kids On Race: The Hidden Picture.” In this video psychologists and even some of the CNN journalists, including Anderson Cooper and Soledad O’Brein, spoke with a diverse group of children and even their parents to discuss the issue of race in their schools, in their friendships and in their homes.

Check the video clip below:

The video found that while both children recognize differences in race, black children are more likely to be open and optimistic when it comes to interracial friendships.

Are you surprised about the results from this video?

The show seemed to side step the issue; the white children probably have more racist or ignorant parents. That wasn’t even mentioned??

Also, I hope that when I have children, no body (of any race) tells my children directly that they don’t want them playing with their child. There are nicer was of separating children also, I’m too pretty for jail!!

What makes me mad is that the black kids are more willing to make white friends then the white kids are to make black friends.  But they’re kids, they can learn the right thing.

it makes you mad that black children are more open minded than other?  That should tell you more about how other children are being raised. Kids learn from the adults around them.  If the parents are bigots and racist you can pretty much expect the child to learn that behavior.

no it makes me mad the black kids are all “lets hold hands and sing kumbaya” while the white kids don’t want anything to do with them.

of course black children are more open.  especially in a day and age with black folks who are 40 and under not spewing race hate unlike people of other ethnic make ups.  Im pretty sure you dont hear black moms and dads of young kids walking around the home saying “now you stay away from those little white, asian, latino etc kids because they are bad news”.
