Dawn Richard Releases Video for “Bombs”; Is It “Run the World (Girls)” Part II?

You know, I actually really like Dawn Richard. If you aren’t 100 percent sure who I’m talking about, she’s the New Orleans born singer of Danity Kane fame, who teamed up with Diddy and singer/songwriter Kalenna Harper to form the short-lived group, Diddy-Dirty Money. Sadly, but not that surprising, the group disbanded after releasing their only album (Last Train to Paris), and Richard revealed that she was released from Bad Boy altogether. So now she’s finally getting to do her solo thing. Her first big song, “S.M.F.U.” (Save Me From You) was pretty good, and she just released a new video for the song “Bombs.” It has a pretty Amazonian-esque theme with tall women dancing very fast and very hard in a desert. Dawn is in the middle doing the same, and also shows up alone in a long black dress and a large head garment singing, strutting her stuff, swagging us the hell out and dancing.

Not going to lie, I couldn’t help but think of “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé when it started. Sorry. And online, it seems that a lot of folks felt a bit similar–some more harsh than others:

“This video is a complete rip off of Run the World by Beyonce and you all know it there is nothing original here the dancing is a bit different but anyone with ears and eyes can she she is copying Bey’s vid Dawn should of done something totally different so there would not be comparisons…NEXT!”

“I am not of fan of this video and don’t understand the words to the song. I think she tried to have it like Beyonce’s video (Who runs the world) in my opinion. I am happy she has come into her own and wish her all success.”

I still love this chick and don’t think the whole thing is some sort of rip off, they just have similar themes, hence it coming to mind. But Bey isn’t the first person, and obviously she won’t be the last, to booty pop with a bunch of under-dressed women in the dessert. I was a bit distracted, but overall, I do like what I see, and I haven’t seen anybody dance that hard in a while. Somebody’s out here grinding! I respect that.

What about you? Check out both and let us know…

Now this…

Are there real similarities?

    Oh yes, and we all know that Beyonce doesn’t rip of her videos from anyone {Crazy in Love comes immediately to mind as well as Countdown}

This song is good, and its nice to have a talented singer, who can dance and compete with the other RnB-pop-tarts. I wish her the best, especially knowing how fast artists are recycled in this industry.

Beyonce was not the first person to dance in a desert. Every woman who is fair-skinned, has curly weave or wears a leotard is somehow compared to Beyonce. I don’t get it. There’s enough yaki to go around.

Anywho, I respect Dawn’s hustle and wish her the best in her career.

No, no, and no again. Maybe the lighting and setting is the same but I don’t think that Dawn ripped Bey off. The songs are both different, the dancing is so much different. Bey video is more fast paced than Dawn. There are just too many differences to say she ripped Bey off.

in the beginning it looked very much like the intro of “run the world” but then when you realize that she isn’t going to change outfits it became very mundane.  she sounded like a fake kelly rowland to me.  this was a waste of my time.

I like the choreography. The song and her close up shots need to get bombed, shredded, and never put together again thanks!

This video is a mess…I do like Dawn and I kind see the comparison but this has to be the cheapest video i have seen in a long time who was her stylist? Was it that she could only afford 1 wardrobe change and about 7 extras? Oh and the only part of the song i understood was the word bombs…i think…and i sure didnt see any bombs

    • Um…

She did a wonderful job considering she is an independent artist. She’s talented and wants to do something that reflects her artistic taste and the direction of the album and single. What she did with one wardrobe change and 7 extras is better than the countless “entertainers” out now with the army of people that still amount to nothing.

I’m sorry but why does she looked bored through her whole video….  I liked the dancing that Dawn did but she looked like she was half-assing it through the whole routine.  I wasn’t a huge fan of Beyonce’s video but at the least, she went full out and hard on the dancing.

i was thinkin the same thing. her face did not get into character at all.

y’all reachin…..really reachin….everything is NOT about Beyonce and you cant keep comparing very upcoming artist to her. Give someone else a chance DAMN. Crabs in a barrel much?

    lame….

I love this song, the chorus.

I hate to admit it but the video does seem like one of those tribute
cheorgraphy youtube vids that gay Beyonce stans come up with.

Also does anyone else think Dawn suffers from Kristen Stewart syndrome?
Her face is always so emotionless. Her eyes are always so dead. She is
defo going to have to work on that if she want to progress as a
    performer.
