Usher to Play Sugar Ray Leonard Alongside Robert De’Niro

March 23, 2012  |

Turns out Usher is diving back into acting.

The R&B crooner is set to play boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in a movie which will chronicle the life of Panamanian boxer, Roberto Durán.

The movie is set to start filming later this year and will also star  Robert De Niro and Gael García Bernal.

Usher told the BBC he thinks this is an incredible role.  “If you see me in the corners boxing, I’m doing that while working on this album.”

Sounds like it’s going to be a busy year for Usher Raymond.

Do you think he can pull off this role?

  • It’s not a reality tv show so congrats!

I hope this is a small roll that doesn’t require Usher to carry the film. I hate when recording artist take on large rolls for which they clearly aren’t prepared. Think Madonna, Mariah Carey, and a host of others who choose to disrespect and abuse their fans by refusing to take acting lessons.

I realize many of them feel that they are at a point in their careers where they are far to famous to sit in an actors studio/class with the un-famous, but they should take heed; the next singer to put out a piece of crap like Glitter, is going to have their camera and recording privileges revoked.
