Wendy Williams Says Sherri Shepherd Gives Stereotypical Black Girl ‘Tude on DWTS

So in typical Wendy Williams fashion, she threw a little shade at Sherri Shepherd and her “Dancing with the Stars” performance yesterday, except Wendy didn’t really have anything to say about how Sherri danced, she was more concerned with how she acted.

After questioning why Sherri “let them [put] you in all that material,” referring to her dress for Monday night’s competition, and saying Sherri absolutely will not win the competition, Wendy decided to drop a little advice, being an ex-DWTS cast member herself. Here’s what she said:

“I have to say, Sherri, You know when you’re talking to the camera and not doing the dancing…Sherri, you were giving them everything they want to see from us black girls—that loud talk, the gaping laugh…don’t let them do that to you, Sherri.”

Wendy added that the producers of the show tried to pressure her to act like that when she was a contestant.

“I explained to you guys what they actually wanted from me. They wanted me to be all black girl—’oh no she did, oh yes she, oh no. Tony—you is not going to make me dance like that no mo!’ Really? I’m not that girl.”

Since I don’t watch Dancing with the Stars, I tried to find to find a clip to prove Wendy’s point, and while I kind of see where she’s coming from, I honestly don’t think Sherri seems any different from how she is on “The View.” I don’t know what that means exactly, but I’m thinking Wendy might just be hatin’ (again).

Check out this clip of Sherri’s interview after her performance and tell us what you think. Does Wendy have a point?

She looks like a frog, but think she is cute as hell. Talking about not wearing underwear at her wedding. Ewwww. THen always on this Jesus talk, yet she had so many abortion. GTFO!

  • keepinitreal13

yes… Wendy is obviously hatin. Sherri is excited and enjoying herself. Just being her normal self. Wendy it ain’t Sherri’s fault you can’t dance. hahahahahahaah

  • Mizzlady140

I think this woman is a disgrace to all black women she is not funny, she is bad bodied, nothing attractive abourt her, she has admitted to using abortions as birth control..and wonders why its so hard for her to concieve in her later years, and yet she is on tv..Wendy is right she is everything that white america thinks of black woman..and she is playing right into it..She acts like a deprived animal when she is around men. Its embarassing..She has no talent, i will be glad when she gets kicked off..so she go sit down some where and take a good look at herself and hopefully mature and fix the many issues she has..YUK!

Who in the wolrd is Wendy Williams to be talking about someone exhibiting stereotypical/bad behavior? She’s not exactly Emily Post herself.  I think that all that stuff she puts on her head is making her even crazier.  I didn’t see anything wrong with Sherri’s behavior.  Wendy Williams  needs to check herself, for real.

I’m sorry when was being happy a bad thing? Most of the time we as black women are stereotyped for being angry or a b***h and now we have to deal with being happy as a bad thing?

Sherri Shepherd was true to who she was which is a happy bubbly person, I didn’t see any “sister girl” attitude at all.

I don’t care how many guest come on that show and kiss Wendy’s a** and say how she’s shouldn’t have gotten voted off, let’s face it Sherri is a wayyyy better dancer than Wendy was on DWTS. Looks like some shade to me and Wendy is the tree casting that shade

if that’s her personality it’s just her personality jesus h.! Black people seem to have to monitor their every step just because a few are too embarrassed of what Non-Black people might think of them.
when are we gonna be able to just live?

  • Miss_Understood

I don’t think Wendy is in any position to judge-especially if we consider her personality when she was on the radio.

Sheri urkes me because she is over the top “Sapphire” on The View but I get more angry that she cannot formulate intelligent responses to the topics or when she seems too scared of losing her job to have a real opinion.

All that being said, some Black women really are Sapphires, Rats, Birds, Ghetto-whatever you want to call it. I feel that Sheri isn’t acting-she’s just actually like that.

    SHUT UP WENDELL

      Lol..be nice

Sherry makes me cringe at times, but I can’t say that I like her any less than Wendy who has more issues of her own, fawning over fake hair and white people like they’re gods.

Wendy is such a fake! Feigning ‘concern’ for Sherry when her pig-knuckled feet couldn’t stay on DWTS herself.

However, she does have a point and Sherry doesn’t disappoint.

This morning on The View, she mentioned her many abortions again, tears and all. But she makes white women more secure in themselves thanks to black women like her.

    Just stop, Sherry…

  • Maggie

In this case, Wendy is exactly right.  Sheri did shuck it out for the cameras on that show.  Just look for the clip of her bouncing up and down during the rehearsal, displaying her chest like some sort of clown.

    • guest

Tig ol’ biddies have a mind of their own when they’re that big…

    • guest

      shuck it out….LOL!!!!

  • guest

But wait a minute..isn’t that the way Wendy acts on her own show?  (Talking loud, Gaping laugh)
Talk about the pot calling the kettle

    • guest

       I K R ?

  • Guest

Wow.  Did anyone catch that line when her partner referred to her as “Shaniqua Rogers” as in Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers?  That’s really offensive.  I realize that she couldn’t have gone off on him in front of the cameras, but it perfectly illustrates how the show, and their viewers want to see her.

They still want the black girl to ghettofy herself for their entertainment.  And I noticed her behavior and language got a bit more stereotypical after he took it there.  Then he mentioned something about putting spinners on her boobs.  That is some racist ish, right there.  And she just takes it, and gives the people what they want.  A big, ugly stereotype.  smh.

Wendy Williams is in NO position to speak about somebody else cooning it up for the masses, but her observations are not without merit.  Sad.

    • msgeegee

When her dance partner made the “Shaniqua Rogers” comment, I think he
was actually quoting Sherry herself. She is true to herself, I think she
is fun an bubbly. Good Luck Sherry!

      • Guest

If that was HER statement, then it’s worse than I thought.  Wendy is 100% right.  When your name is Sherri and you start referring to yourself as “Shaniqua” just to entertain white people, that’s playing into a stereotype at its finest.

Shame on Sherri for belittling herself like that.  It is truly pathetic.

  • sexcgenius

Mr. Williams should have a seat.  He is the poster child of the horrible stuff black folks do for a paycheck.  If that is who Sherri is, let her do her.  When you fake it as Mr. Williams does, it is obvious and embarassing.

    • Guest

      “Mr. Williams” Luv it!

    • So…DoYouLike..StUff

      LolLolLolLolLol

      “Mr.Williams…” the whole comment

As a well educated black woman I find both Williams and Sheppherd to be a complete and utter embarrassment. Although I am happy to see that they are both successful,  I am unhappy with the way they allow themselves to be played. Sherri has been a clown for years and Wendy is getting there quick. In any case I wish them both continued success and each should be who they want to be and who they truly are. It seems in Hollywood black females are still made to act in a manner that was typical of of how they saw us 50 years ago and continue to see us as long as we allow them to.

    • FaithDiva

While it’s commendable that you’re “well educated” and I’m no big fan of either Ms Williams or Ms Shepherd, your phrasing unfairly and somewhat snobbishly suggest their fan base must be
uneducated and less polished than you.  Sherri is a comedian.  Your characterization of her
as a clown is unfair.  As for Wendy Williams, she apparently has a fan base that appreciates her snarly style.  Not every Hollywood female is Halle, Kerry Washington, or Angela Bassett.

I’m not sure about Wendy but I know Sherri has reached back to help other African Americans
      in the industry.

      • HansiCabo

“FaithDiva”, I have to agree with “Fair and Balanced”.  Though, I’m happy for their success, at what cost have they achieved their success?  They have perpetuated unflattering stereotypes of black women that only reinforce what other races truly think of us.  It has to stop somewhere.

Why don’t we see and hear more about people LIKE Angela Bassett, Tracey Ross, Thandi Newton, and others of similar ilk that portray a POSITIVE non-stereotypical image of black women, huh?! We need to see more of black women like them and less of the Sherri and Wendy types. Period!

    • SeeCheskaRun

Why do you feel the need to disclose the fact that your educated? No other race of women does that..

  • Guest

So that’s why you put on the fake Valley Girl accent Wendy? Sherri is just being Sherri. Clearly all black women don’t have the same personality Sherri. As annoying as she can be at times, the woman is just being herself.
