Colorful Cast of Characters: Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown Team Up For “Right By My Side”

Here she goes singing again.

But Nicki Minaj is not alone in her attempt to pretend she can sing on the track “Right By My Side.”  She gets some backup from Chris Brown on this poppy, formulaic track. And by formulaic,  I mean that it sounds exactly like everything else on the radio. Not all too well executed, pretty repetitive…you get the idea. And is that Auto-tune I hear? *sighs* At this point in the game, if you have to rely on Auto-tune, just stick to what you do best and leave singing to the pros.

But in all honesty, this track could be pretty decent if Minaj just stuck to lyrical tirades about ratchet chicks like she does around the 2: 50 mark. But alas, we’re all pretty clear on the fact that she’s changed and is hoping to be a mainstay in the pop world, so this track fits.  The song will be on her upcoming album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which comes out April 3. Check it out below and let us know if you’ll be rocking in the club to it, or shuddering at the mere thought of it later.

Sooooo. Pass or play for you?

I’m tired of BLACK MEDIA constantly throwing shade at black artists until of course the DIE then they come with some bullsh– sympathy. “Colorful charcters”? WTF does sthat mean in regards to Chris?

Anyway, I like the song. It’s not meant to be Donny and Reberta, it’s just a cute pop song. Stop being so negative about black artists all of the time… black media. I read and see enough negativity about black ppl in the media!

So I’m guessing you want us to lie when their music is underwhelming? And the colorful cast of characters part wasn’t meant to be a negative thing actually. They both have pretty wild and colorful personas, so put them on a track and they are indeed a colorful cast of characters.

But the point is, neither of these people are POP. She’s supposed to be a hip-hop artist, and he’s R&B and the singing is underwhelming. Sorry…? I’m just saying, her first album had some bangers (“Roman’s Revenge,” “Did it on Em,” Moment 4 Life,” “Dear Old Nicki,” hell I even liked “Check it Out” but she wasn’t trying to sing for real). It’s one thing to sing the chorus, but not a majority of a track. These attempts to be a pop star for this new album are just flat, hence me saying “here she goes singing again.” Just stick to rhyming. That’s what she’s good at. You act like I said she sucks butt. lol

I didn’t like it until Nicki rapped that little bit of verse.

Why so much hate? It may not be your cup of tea, but there will be people who appreciate.

it’s not hate…. it’s an point of view. she has lost everything that i fell in love with her in the first place.

      • Merriegirl

There is a thin line between giving your opinion & hating. I think this author crossed that line.

The annoyingly disappointing thing is that Chris Brown can actually actually SANG!! like lay off the autotune!!! and the voice enhancers!!! sheeeeeeeshhhh!  The Dream was right when he said Black Artists cannot make R&B and soul music any more…everything is so pop filled with a bunch of autotune and voice enhancers and lip synching …..smfh

Wow it’s just one song calm down. Chris has a very nice voice IMO but he will switch his sound up from time to time depending on the record. Not really sure what Nic’s deal is? lol
