Monica and Brandy Open Up About Their Physical Altercation Back in 1998

You know maybe I’m severely late but I really had no idea that there was a real life beef between Brandy and Monica. I just thought that the mutterings about tension between the two was something the record companies and the media created to stir up controversy and promote their single, “The Boy is Mine.” But as both Monica and Brandy revealed on a recent interview with Hot 97′s Angie Martinez, there was a whole lotta truth behind those rumors.

Back in 1998, the same year the two released their collaborative single, Monica and Brandy found themselves in something of a tussle. They don’t get into too many details but the subject came up during their interview with Angie Martinez. Check out the clip below.

1998 really was a long time ago. Monica was sixteen at the time and she’s since apologized to Brandy. She really did sound sincere about that. So we’re going to cut her a lot of slack. Who didn’t do something regrettable and reckless when they were a teenager? As long as Brandy has forgiven her, she shouldn’t have past indiscretions thrown in her face. (Even though we wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to hear all of the juicy details.) I get that. I certainly wouldn’t want to relive my worst moments in the public eye. But I really do wish they would expound more on how they were able to mend or build a relationship after that. The two mentioned that the birth of their children played a role in coming back into each others’ lives. Kids will make you grow up. Maybe it’s because I don’t have children that I still have questions though. Personally, if someone put their hands on me and I forgave them, I really don’t know if I could ever work with them again. Just goes to show you that you can never underestimate the power of love and forgiveness. Brandy must really be a big woman in that regard.

    From the beginning have ALWAYS LOVED, LOVED, LOVED BRANDY! There are no two ways about it! Monica does have talent but I have ALWAYS loved Brandy! Love her singing, her acting, just adore her! Whatever problems or issues she’s had, she seems to be getting past. Hopefully she can get married to this man and live “happily ever after”! THE END!

    Well I just have to say that I love both of the girls. They both are my favorite artist of all time and still are. To be honesty I really don’t like there new song together but I will be checking out both of there albums when they come out. I just want to let everyone know  thats commenting about brandy being the better singer. Your wrong. lol. Like they both hands down can hold there own and they sound way better than alot of artist out here. But Monica is the better singer. Like brandy had her moments but she was more pop then R &B. Which of course Monica was more R&B. She sang your heart out on alot of songs. The only reason Brandy was more popular was of course she had her mom pushing her hard. Anyone that has there parents pushing them so hard are going to be everywhere and getting everything. Like Beyonce, the Jackson, Britney spears, etc. The list goes on.

    If any of you can find (i’m sure you can) their old vma performance of “the boy is mine” you will see that Monica’s face was welted up pretty badly-obviously covered with make up the best they could for the last minute circumstances. I’m glad they’ve grown and moved past it. They seem genuinely close now

    Vocally Brandy had really developed. I won’t say who’s better because I don’t think there’s anyone who can mimic either of these ladies! But I’m glad they’ve moved on and I still love them both! Their new song is my jam! Lol Brandy may not be as loud as Monica but her skills now are the freaking business! Sometimes I be like “girl stop showing off” lol

    Kids do indeed change your perspective on pretty much everything. I like you thought this was a contrived beef for the publicity of the song and I paid it no mind. A whole lot of us were not our best selves as teenagers. I was quite the fool at times. I think once you grow up and realize how stupid some of the things you would throw fits about or fight over seems stupid; you are able to give a person you may have had beef with some leeway. You would hope that you will be able to have the same from them.You want the same for yourself.

    The strange thing about this is that just the other day they were on the Breakfast Club saying that their was no beef and that it was all made up by the media and whatever whatever…Hmmm so what is the truth?     Monica probably was jealous because Brandys star shone more brightly than hers in the 90′s- Music,tv show, movies, Cover Girl etc…Brandy had it all including a superior singing voice which has just gotten better with age.

       Not that she can’t sing butBrandy had all of that because it was played upon her “good girl” image. Monica always had the more superior voice. But as long as both women realize that holding on to grudges does nothing, I’m good with that, always liked both of them.

       Brandy said there was a “misunderstanding” & implies that the scenario in the song was similar to real life…. Besides they made up quickly, have kept in touch & introduced their children to each other over the years. The key thing is they’ve moved on, so hopefully people will let it rest.

      WRONG!!! Monica had no need to be jealous because she had the voice and beauty. If you check Brandy’s track record she has had problems getting along with quite a few people she has worked with. Brandy does not have a good voice, have you ever heard her sing livem, she sounds horrible on the other hand Monica has a strong beautiful voice and has every since she came out and if anything Brandy knew that Monica would still the spotlight and became jealous, look at how her and her mother acted with Rodney Jerkins on the show saying that he wasnt devoted all of his time to Brandy its not like she was she just so talented musically!

        Brandy can’t sing live? Her songs sound better live than on the recorded master….Are you insane or just tone death?? Did you see the 1998 VMA’s where they sang The Boy Is Mine live? She killed it while Monica stood there looking crazy, that’s probably why they got into a fight.lol.

    Yeah. As a fan, I was all in with both of them back then. And I think I remember hearing about an altercation but wasn’t sure until now. Wow. But it’s cool that they’ve grown from it.

    I remember the rumors back in the day, and I had never believed a word of them until they told in this interview.
