Everyone questioned Rihanna’s judgment when she picked ex-boyfriend Chris Brown to be featured on her “Birthday Cake” remix and in a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Rihanna explained why she chose to collaborate with Chris Brown.

“The first song that came about was ‘Birthday Cake.’ I mean we ended up recording them at the same time and executing them together, but I reached out to him about doing ‘Birthday Cake’ because that’s the only person that really–it made sense to do the record. Just as a musician despite everything else that was going to be the person. You know I thought about rappers, and I’ve done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown. So I wanted him on the track, and then in turn he was like ‘Why don’t you do the remix to my track?’ and it was a trade off. We did two records. One for my fans. One for his fans, and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn’t be a divide. You know? It’s music, and it’s innocent.”

At the end of the day they are both musicians, so if they both fit on the track, then so be it. I hate people keep bringing up the role model card. Rihanna has stated more than once she does not want to be a role model. Why should she live her life on the straight and narrow because your idiot daughter might mimic everything she does. If your child looks up to them to this much of an extent then you failed as a parent. Nuff said.

      AMEN!!!

@a1131165e9cad06c12a6db13da252597:disqus  – Totally understand but Rihanna is an artist and at no time is she obligated or should we even feel she is obligated or should use her platform for anything other than what she does – sing!  We have got to raise our own children and those children around us with the correct morals and standards so that when they see these ENTERTAINERS behaving badly they already have a moral compass to understand and take these people in the media for who they are and what they do only and not use them as folks to pattern their personal lives and behavior.  Like I said that way of thinking is the setup for diappointment and judgment.

It just sends the wrong message to her young adoring fans…instead of using the incident that happened between them to sell records, CD’s, downloads or whatever, she could have use the same incident as a vehicle to let her young fans know that violence against women especially YOUNG women is not acceptable. The music may be innocent but the violence against her was not innocent.

And I was not a fan of Chris Brown nor Rhianna before their problems.

  • Nisaboo

@Creation1:disqus  – Really?!!  Are you serious?!  Its music honey. The words of the song would be more offensive to most than the fact that a young lady forgave a young man for a wrong he did to her and they have come to a place of understanding and moved on with their lives. We need to raise our own children!!

  • Nisaboo

Really people – its just music and if its something other than that between two complete strangers to most of the world…WHY DO WE CARE!!!  These young people have families and people around them.  Lets stop being judgmental and enjoy their music…why?.. because they are musicians!!!  If you are looking for them to add purpose or something else other than their talents then you are setup for the disappointment and put yourself in a judgmental state.  Musically speaking from what I have heard of the Rihanna song, based on the words, like she said from an artististic point of view he would be the natrural choice.  So many are trying to tear down this very young man for 1 mistake.  Will never condone what he did, however, how many mistakes have you made that someone has forgiven you for?

Sigh….. the enigma that is the female.  Ladies, it’s things like this that confuse men and make us think we can get away with the s*it you hate.  I give you the Mike Tyson special, rant on national TV like a child, yet you still end up dating someone who looks just like me and then eventually ask me to appear on your song????  Ladies, I can’t understand it… maybe if I smack my woman up, cheat, it doesn’t seem to matter because there are a number of women (not the real ones with eggs the size of  tomatoes) who pull this Rihanna like move of re-accepting intolerable behavior and it sickens me, it has me irate, if Rihanna gets her heart broken (or ribs for that matter) again than I can’t feel sorry for her again.  As the saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.    It makes me think when/if I have a daughter, I’m making sure she won’t accept such clowns in her life… I guess Rihanna’s pops probably tried the same, but clearly it ain’t work.

    • Nisaboo

Please!!!!  Tolerance and Forgiveness are 2 very different things and can be totally opposite of the other.  Because she forgave this young man in no way indicates that she is tolerable to getting beat up and nor should your daughter or anyone else’s daughter raised with the right morals and respect for self should be confused on those things.  So as black women, to show our intolerance we are never forgive this young man and keep him from making a living because of one mistake that he made?!  And we – black folk – are in the position to make this judgement on each other because….we have over come?!  Really?!

      • ElvisWasAHero2Most

That’s an interesting point, I guess due to the lack of Jesus in my life I find it difficult to forgive. Though I still have issue with this, since this is a recent AND heinous offense, to forgive so soon implies this tool Chris Brown has her around his finger tips. Maybe I’m just a hater.

        • Nisaboo

While it would definatley help, having Jesus in your life does not mean you should have difficulty in forgiveness.  Forgiving is inherently built within us but there are other emotions that may not allow it to surface.  It is definatley hard to forgive some things over others, but if we never forgave anyone that crossed our paths in life…oh boy what a world it would be, so it is done by all but at different degrees and levels.  Have a wonderful day and enjoyed the chat.

  • Creation1

The question isn’t why she did it, the bigger question is, who is going to buy it and if it is going to be a hit.  If the answer is positive then that is a problem and speaks worse of us than her.  Right now she is receiving all of the marketing she needs to expose and market the product.

  • Rachael

RhiRhi you don’t owe anyone an explanation. You’re a grown *** woman. Do you, but if he beats you again you know the world will turn on your *** worst then the first time, and I don’t even want to consider what they’ll do to him. Do you but be wise. Following your heart can get you into trouble. Make nice with Kuerruche and move on boo. Move on.

  • Klynnfun

I think it’s their business, if they are happy with it, who are we to judge.

I think Trey Songz would have been a perfect trade off for Chris…pretty much the same style and considering that Trey didn’t beat the crap out of her.So honestly, I think this is just a really lame reason.

    • Kennedy

YOU think that Trey Songz is a good Trade off. Rihanna thinks Chris Brown was good for the record. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion…What’s lame about her choice? Is your opinion lame?

      • Nitty

        Sooo right Kennedy.
People always think their point of view is the only way..ugh
        please let them know..:)

but seeing as how you are not a musician, how would you know

    • Yamini

I don’t think that Trey Songz would have worked out well with that billy goat, shaky sound to his voice.  I actually do think that Chris & Rihanna do well with Collaborations…past & present.  This coming from someone who doesn’t really care for any of those mentioned. lol

        They have great chemistry…

Yeah I could definitely have seen Trey Songz singing it. But whatever, I mean she clearly wanted Chris Brown and doesn’t give a **** what anyone thinks
