Marlo Hampton: ‘I’m Not Materialstic, I Just Love Being Around Beautiful Things’

I don’t know about you but I could barely stomach Marlo on the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” trip to South Africa. From her knocking Sheree for only having one Rolex, to wearing Monolo’s on a safari, to having hotel staff pack her “red bottoms” one by one as she explained what they are, I couldn’t handle her.

But despite her appearance as a new-money boughie American on the trip, Marlo swears up and down that she’s not materialistic. She told ESSENCE.com:

“I just love being around beautiful things.”

Is that what it is?

Marlo went on to explain that her fascination with the finer things in life is just a result of not having much as a child.

“Because of all the darkness in my past and me being a child in foster homes, fashion is what I run to. And its not just fashion, I love having a beautiful home… I can sit right today and feel good because I have glitz and glam and it’s all mine.”

You would think someone who came from such humble beginnings would be much more…humble, but for Marlo, she takes pride in knowing she’ll never have to worry about going back to that type of life again.

“The main thing that always followed me from when I was a child is that I had to have a home. It’s just mine and I feel secure. I don’t have to worry about the foster care lady coming to move me to a different home.”

“It may not be the best thing to say, but it’s my truth.”

Well, I guess everybody has their own truth. Does Marlo’s past as a foster child justify her behavior or is there no excuse for her uppity attitude?

Marlo, I think is very insecure and therefore she uses this persona of I’m rich, I can flaunt it as a way to cover that up.

Seriously, “The Housewives” were an embarassment to begin with. She’s as cringe-worthy as the rest.of them. They pull black women down, down, down.

I don’t watch the show, so I’d never heard of her before this article.  But, as long as she earns enough money to surround herself in beautiful things, then there’s nothing wrong with that.  The other thought that occurred to me after, “Who’s Marlo Hampton?”‘, and her supposed scoff at someone for only having ONE Rolex, is that I doubt she really has it like that.  For anyone who has it today, it can be gone tomorrow, especially if they spend the way it sounds like she does.  When people are part of the one percentile, they can afford to have a collection of Rolexes, because that’s like candy money for them.  But they probably don’t, because the wealthier people are, the more frugal they tend to be, unless you’re talking about someone in Dubai or some place.

    She’ll never make it.

Thats so true, wealthy people who have worked hard for their money, respect the hard work they have put in and know the value of the wealth they have. Those that have easy money like Ms Hampton seems to have, dont think twice about blowing it in a day. As they say “Easy come, easy go”

Forget Manolos and Louboutins, she needs Jesus!! She is trying to fill a void in her life with materialistic items. She well never experience pure joy until she knows him. IJS

I never thought that Real Housewives representation of black women could get worse.  Until Marlo joined the cast.  She is the definition of money can’t buy you class.  A LOT of people think that designer clothes, bags or shoes will make them into something.  What’s that saying?  You can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.

Its sad. Clearly she has let material possessions define who she is and how much she is worth. What I don’t understand is how some of these “wives” can brag about what material possessions they have when they didn’t earn anything to acquire those possessions in the first place. How can you brag that you have a million dollar home, when you didn’t contribute any money to obtain it?  Riding on somebody else’s coattails of fame and fortune is nothing to brag about.

      SHE’S OBVIUSLY EXTREMLEY IMMATURE ….
CAUSE YOU REALITY IS FOSTER CARE AND SECURING A HOKE FOR YOURSELF DOESNOT EXCUSE YOUR INABILITY TO HANDLE SITUATIONS WITH MATURITY AND TALK ABOUT WHAT OTHERS DONT HAVE.

  • awet

Are Louis Vutton and Chanel the only designers she knows???!!

    • Akaone10

Christian Louboutins, Hermes to which she had several.

  • HONEY LOVE

God giveth to you, and he can take it right back. I think that she really is a nice person. She is just one of those ppl that when they get something they dont know how to act or what to do with it.

  • DanaDizzane

She is the representation of why black women have a bad name.  White ppl tend to think that we are these “Do anything for money” women.   Then, we are exploited in “relationships”… similar to Marlo.  She makes it a known fact that all of her income comes from men.

I truly wish that someone would take the responsibility to educate these women on the Bible and the truth of the purpose of life.  Then they’ll know: it’s doesn’t matter how nice the things are around you.  You are a child of God and you must find a way to serve him.  Stop spending thousands of dollars on ITEMS and start devoting your cash flow to loving people into the Kingdom of God. ugh!

I like Marlo for the following reasons;she is pleasant and approachable,People who have the best of the best, think they are also the best of the best.Marlo is real and humble. She does run off designer names not in an airy way but as a compliment to the designer,Yes she did go off on Sheree and what she did not have, because Sheree is an airy pretentious person, but Marlo knew the real deal with her. Marlo enjoy your life, you do not have to be shameful for surviving a life of mishaps and never wanting to go back.Do not apololgize to any one for what you have in life.
