Clutch Answers the Question We’ve All Been Asking: Why Tiny?

OK, so maybe we all haven’t been asking this, but as a lover of T.I. I can admit I have been a hater of Tiny. And as my Twitter timeline often shows on Monday nights, and obviously author Shahida Muhammad’s as well, lots of women find themselves asking, out of all the women T.I. could have, why did he choose Tiny?

As Shahida points out in her case for Tiny, the question over T.I.’s choice is totally rooted in superficiality. We make comments about Tiny’s face, shape, hair, clothing, and everything else on the outside to suggest Tip can do better without any thought for the fact that she’s a good mother, a talented singer/business woman, a devoted wife—you know all those things we should be looking for in a partner. You could argue that “ghetto” is an internal trait, but considering T.I. is straight from the hood, that argument is only going to get you so far.

But we’re also being hypocrites when we criticize her. Shahida writes:

“We often call out artists for constantly displaying such unrealistic and unhealthy images of women in their videos, but when we see an artist settle down with someone like Tiny she gets ridiculed.”

You can’t argue with that point at all, and it says a lot about how men bring out the worst in women when it comes to jealousy, cattiness, and wanting something they’ve got.

As T.I.’s Family Hustle has gotten through more and more episodes, I find myself thinking these two are the cutest, country couple I’ve ever seen. The way they interact, their Atlanta accents, even both of their short statures make them look like the perfect match on the outside—and as a few Clutch readers pointed out, if you happen to think T.I. is nothing more than your average, ordinary dude in the looks department, then the question becomes why not Tiny?

Whatever the couple has that attracts them to one another seems to be working. They’ve been together for 10 years with minimal rumors of infidelity, and T.I. doesn’t skip out on a chance to acknowledge his wife for holding him down throughout years of legal battles. At the end of the day, those are real examples of love and honor that will get you to the alter if you’re looking for something real; not looks. T.I. appears to have made the right choice.

    Tiny is beautiful! What’s the problem? Sometimes we sisters are way mentally jacked up. We get mad when the men get with the Latina beauties, but we snarky when they get with the natural black beauties, (that we subconsciously feel are ugly and for that reason, undeserving of a black man’s love)
    We all calling her “cute”. WOW!

    I think Tiny and T.I. compliment each other. They have struggled together to achieve their dreams and I bless them for that. What ever our thoughts good or bad it doesn’t change the fact that they love each other. I pray they stay together FOREVER.

    I love them both and I’ve never understood why people are always hating on her! All that matters is that they love each other. Truth be told, she learned all that loyalty from her mother. As you can see her mother is still with her dad and is a ride or die chic as well. I’m sure they endured all sorts of hate and she is still with him today! I love T.I. and Tiny! I think they are a perfect match!

    Beauty id I’m the eye of the beholder. I had a husband and a long-time lover that people use to ask me what did I see in them? Implying, they weren’t the best looking. I was no raving beauty but what was and still is true they are both still upstanding gentlemen and beautiful inside. Maybe that’s what T. I. sees SUBSTANCE.

    I love the both of them. They are a real couple not always trying to be in the limelight, but a real family, and the love that they have for each other is so obvious, I just think they are wonderful, despite what they been thru that just shows nothing can come between them, but makes their marriage stronger!

    I think they make a good couple…..Looks are not everything in a relationship…….It takes a lot more than that these days…….The total package……

    I totally agree with Baps.. Quite honestly before I started watching the show I didn’t care too much for T.I. I loved his music but I thought he was a dog. The show has given me a whole different opinion of him. I do think they are a cute couple and were made for each other.

    Ummm…If I remember correctly, Tiny was rich, famous, and successful waaaayy before T.I. even hit the scene…so maybe the question should be why did Tiny choose T.I.? He is forever in and out of court/jail. “Minimal infidelities are STILL infidelities”… he has MULTIPLE baby mamas…js

    Personally, I like them together. I HATE her stylist, but as a couple; as parents they work…so good for them.

    I haven’t watched the show, but this article is a great way for all of us to check what we say or think. Things that seem strange to us on the surface could make all the sense in the world, if we knew what to look for.

    I don’t understand why people hate on Tiny. They act like she’s the most hideous looking woman in the world. She seems sweet and supportive. It seems like she loves TI and takes care f her family.
    Maybe TI is smart enough to choose a woman who has a good heart, a good soul and who knows how to be a good wife. Get off Tameka, lol.

    Finally a black man that doesnt make relationship choices with the end of his d@ck and people hate on him. A nut is a nut and what she brings to the table by way of loyalty and compatibility, superhead or none of those other superficial hoes cant touch that!

    I have always liked Tiny. She’s an attractive woman who appears to be grounded, respectful of her man, loves her family, and values her friends. Maybe more women should aspire to these qualities and stop being so petty and negative! Kudos to you both TI and Tiny! Until the next episode…keep up the good work!

    I admit I asked the question until I started watching the show and checked myself for being superficial. When you’re beautiful on the inside, you’re beautiful. They are a cute couple and I can tell they love each other to death. Some people never experience love like that.

    I don’t think there is anything wrong with Tiny. She is beautiful. I love her personality and she’s shown that she is a chick that will ride for her man. Who wouldn’t want that? People are just way too superficial and judgmental. Keep hating while Tiny is the one with the ring on…
