Chris Brown: Can We Forgive and Forget?

February 26th, 2012 - By Charing Ball

topnews

Last week, the blogosphere went berserk after Chris Brown performed at the 2012 Grammy’s. This was the first time that Brown had been invited to participate since being banned from performing in 2009, where his appearance was canceled after he viciously beat then-girlfriend Rihanna the night before.  Despite the passage of time, which is said to heal all wounds, as it turns out, many folks are still not okay with Brown performing at the Grammy’s – or anywhere for that matter.  Critics took to penning several widely shared columns about why Brown should not perform and why we don’t forgive him.

Always best to forgive to be able to move on…..But never forget the experience that happened so you can learn from it as a person.

Forgive what?  Never did anything to me.  A relationship is between the two people involved.

  • NUBIANDIVA

Chris Brown has been forgiven. He just keeps doing things that he needs to be forgiven for. If you act like an idiot time & time again it is not a mistake. It is a personality trait.
Chris Brown needs REDEMPTION. He wants to be restored to his former place. Redemption is no one’s to give. It must be earned. Chris is apparently to spoiled & immature to do the work to gain his redemption….Unless he can man up he may never be redeemed.

Chris Brown, Chris Brown!! Shut the hell up. U people act like the boy was a grown man. He a kid playing a adult arena, he messed up YES, all kids do. Look at your kids, neices nephews, friends kids, ect….I don’t know any perfect kids, or betta yet no one that is perfect. Ole saying, “stay outta relationship beefs cause they gonna be right to back, and you the fool.

    • lonelyhunter

No. Just…no. There is not being perfect and then there is viciously beating a woman and showing no remorse for it. He just doesn’t understand that what he did was completely wrong, and we as a society have done both him and Rihanna a disservice by just letting this kind of behavior slide. When this happened he was over 18 and therefore an adult. Even if he were 13, 15, or 52 he should know better than to hit someone. We as women, especially as black women have a right to have a dialog about situations like this.

      • guest

Yes, we do have to dialog about situations like this.  And Jay-Z.  And Joe Budden.  And Bishop Thomas Weeks (Juanita Bynum’s husband)…  Do you see what I just did?  Although I agree with you, don’t vilify the person who is trying to change.  It was a one-time incident.  He apologized.  He paid his debt to society.  If at that point you still have a problem with Chris Brown, how about starting a dialog about some of the other bonafide abusers I listed?

  • Lalatarea

I’m tired of reading/hearing abt chris brown too! my solution? I’m staying off madamenoire. y’all have an article abt him EVERYDAY! STOP! till then I’M DONE with this site.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JAI4SRENU2A5WKRTELXXYJPDSI Kayla

thing is alot of people want to forgive him, but his actions have proven he isn’t sorry and hasn’t learned to control his anger. That’s why he keeps getting attacked. point blank.

  • thomasclemons5

Ain’t you got something to report than about this simple a** n***a.Shoot if RiRi wants to get back with Chris Brown then this is her stupidity for doing it.A simple minded woman that has no sense of direction.Stupid people that cannot see the light deserve each other and Chris Brown and Ri Ri foot the bill

  • WhereBklyn@

All this talk about whether or not to forgive CB is all nonsense and fruitless. Yes, he made a mistake, a very big one. On the other hand to vilify him for the rest of his life is ridiculous. CLEARLY the ‘victim’ has gotten over it by the sound of her ‘Birthday Cake’ remix featuring non other than the villain himself. If SHE can forgive him, it’s time for the World, especially the media

  • Litter

shhhhhhhoooootttttt they want this boy as bad as thet wanted OJ  and all them [whitefolks] did was lay in wait and OJ hung his self like this boy is getting ready to do. u cant see the light when ur young. so people hope for the best and be prepared for the worse.  while this child self-destructs cause his head is hard as some bricks.

  • La Shante’

IT IS NOT UP TO US TO SAY WHAT HE HAS TO DEAL WITH.  STAY OUT OF HIS HEART AND MIND.  YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT HE HAS TO DEAL WITH PERSONALLY. IT IS HIS BUSINESS AND HIS ALONE. WRITING ABOUT THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN IS NOT DOING ANYTHING BUT REHASHING THIS MESS. DON’T TRY TO TELL THIS MAN HOW TO  HEAL, OR WHAT HE HAS TO DO TO FOR REDEMPTION IN YOUR OPINION.    DEAL WITH YOUR OWN MESS.

  • Charissehill

The message today at church was forgiveness. Jesus told peter to forgive 7×70 times. The message he was conveying was you shouldnt be able to count the times you should forgive someone. It is very obvious that Rhianna (the other party involved) has forgiven him so why shouldn’t we as a society learn to do so. The only thing I would say to Chris Brown is…. Please remember the very people (black folks)  who stood strong and supported you through all of this, dont let us down anymore. And by the way the recent photograph at the club wasnt a good look.

  • La Shante’

PEOPLE PLEAZZZZZZZZZZZZ, LET THIS MAN LIVE HIS LIFE, AND STOP THIS INSANE GARBAGE ABOUT HIM.  IT’S OVER AND DONE….LET IT BE!

  • shakeria

PLEASE LEAVE THIS BOY ALONE HE WAS AND IS A YOUNG BOY WHO MADE LITTLE BOY DECISIONS NOW LET HIM GROW UP INTO A MAN

    • fred

He is not a young boy, he is a man who has not learned how to deal with his anger.   You sound like one who would keep letting someone back into your life, making excuses for his behavior and encouraging other women to forgive and forget.  I didn’t raise my daughters to be some mans punching bag and certainly would not make excuses for him.   He needs counseling and lots of it.

  • SweetT

Seriously, stop RE-WRITING this same article over and over again. I swear I’ve seen this same topic on this site at least 4 times already. We are over it, but you all just won’t let it die… damn.

  • Glitter

You’re over him; but you just wrote an entire article on him? Hmm.

The simple solutions to everyone’s issue with Chris Brown: don’t watch/listen to him, don’t tweet him, and don’t read about him. It’s very easy.

I just don’t understand how people can be so passionate about their hate and dislike for someone that they 1) don’t know and 2) can easily just avoid.

People do need to get over it. If he doesn’t affect your life in any way, why waste your time? Move on. If you’re one of those parents so concerned with how his image will affect your your kids, do a better job of parenting.
