TV Show ‘Unsung’ Is Unstoppable

February 11, 2012  |

TV One’s NAACP Image Award-winning series Unsung is well on its way to its most successful season ever. This season, which kicked off on Monday, Jan 2, has also produced  the two highest-rated episodes in Unsung’s history. Unsung is TV One’s acclaimed series of one-hour biographies celebrating the lives and careers of successful artists or groups who, despite great talent, have not received the level of recognition they deserve or whose stories have never been told.

The full picture of black music in America is a rich kaleidoscope of talented artists and so much bigger than acknowledged superstars and household names like Aretha, Whitney, Stevie and Marvin. Many of the greatest have either failed to achieve that same level of superstardom – or have compelling life stories the details of which have largely remained untold. Read Full Story Here…

I love this show, my favorites Vesta, Bobby Womack. I was dissappointed in the Freddy Jackson show, I feel he was the only one that didnt open up as much as the others.

    • I feel you. I think you mean as far as his sexuality is concerned. *shurg* even though we are in a day and age where “coming out” is much easier, for some folks it’s not that easy. They come out when they are ready not when WE want them to. And even if they never “come out” it’s their life not ours. But I do know what you mean.

It’s a nice place for black white sing’les, to interact with each other…no bounds or extremes in front of true love.

I’ve been hooked since episode one.   It appears that most of our acts have been unsung.  So, the show shouldn’t run out of subjects for possibly decades.   Of the many artists I hope they’ll feature, I’m anxiously awaiting shows on The Isleys and Cameo.  I hope they’re working on them.

Tammi Terrell was a good one..her story was so sad. She could’ve been greater than Diana Ross. Vesta Williams was a good one too….heartbreaking in the end.

I look forward to the David Ruffin story. “Aint nobody coming to see you Otis.”

      She is craaaazzzy! Lol.

    • I don’t remember how I came across her song Slow Tongue but if you see the video of her concert performance of the song you’d understand why I just HAD to see the episode of Unsung on her! I ain’t mad at her either. But I love Unsung I discover artist who sang songs that I never knew who made it!

My family and I watch this every week.  It really gives you insight into who these people are, and it answers a lot of questions about what happened to them.

  • I love this show, and so does my mum. It’s really interesting to see many artists and their change over the decades.
