For the Cool in You: Classic & Kooky Leather Jackets You’ll Love

At this time of the year, many people have on those long, grandma-ish coats with the husky dog hoods covered in fake fur. Why? Because it’s too cold to play crazy. Better safe than sorry. But if you’re in other parts of the country where your bones are chilled and not frozen, you might not need an Eskimo-style coat. That’s where an awesome leather jacket comes in. People love them because they’re soft and fierce in every fashionable way, but also because a well-lined leather jacket still manages to be warm. If you’re in the market for one while they’re on sale (since leather jackets are pretty expensive), we’ve got a few in different styles and for different kinds of fashionistas. Open your minds and your wallets!

*Note, we tried to keep jackets under $400 for the most part–we understand times are hard…

*Oh, and the opening jacket is by Allsaints, and the above is by Nike.

For the Working Woman

Elie Tahari’s Tamar Silken Leather Jacket – $295.19 – Loehmann’s

Talk about an unconventional take on the leather jacket! Not too conservative looking, but not too short and pre-teenish in style, the silken leather jacket is sleek and modern. While it might come off looking really fancy, it can take a punch from some harsh winds–though we’d recommend throwing a scarf over it and some leather gloves for backup. The unique stitching is probably what makes it stand out the most, as well as the tie around the midsection that accentuates an awesome waistline.

For the Biker Chick

The Maison Scotch Leather Biker Jacket – $270 – Revolveclothing.com

Awwww snap! Pull out your leather pants and hop on somebody’s bike in this one! This biker jacket is a fancy mix of wool and leather, with a warm wool bodice and back, and sharp leather details on the sleeves, shoulders and lapel. The perfect jacket for being seen for a girl’s night out, go black and blue or go home.

For the Spunky Leatherette Chick

Leather Biker with Leopard Print Pony Panel – $286.48 – ASOS.com

Okay, I know what you’re thinking–this jacket might go out of style as soon as you put it on. NOT TRUE! For the ladies with fearless style, you know that it never hurts to wear what you want, and who doesn’t want this lovely leather leopard jacket? Made with a funky asymmetrical zipper and leopard print panels, this jacket is a slim fit one for those trying to make a statement–I’m bold and beautiful. BOW!

For the Plus Size Player

Bernardo Wool Insert Leather Jacket – $288 – Nordstrom

In my search for jackets for this story, I found that a lot of leather jackets for plus size women tend to look really cheap. They come in candy colors and are usually very similar in the bomber style. However, this highly lauded jacket is a winner with its motorcycle stye and wool paneling on the arms. Not only is it warm, but it’s very fashionable without being over-the-top in its details. A classic black leather jacket. You can’t beat that.

For the Lady Who Loves Detail

Allsaints Spitalfields Reptile Jacket – $385 – Allsaints

This luscious bomber, which comes in taupe or chocolate, is very sleek and stylish, and with it’s high cowl neck, it will help in the fight to NOT catch pneumonia out in these streets.  While it looks tame from far away, the workings of this baby are covered in a clever reptile print. Now that’s bad a**.

For the Party Girl Trying to Stay Warm

Veda’s Prayer Crepe-Sleeved Leather Jacket – $264 – The Outnet

Distressed leather…(*drools*), how fly! This jacket is a one-of-a-kind treat with its shawl collar and crepe insert sleeves. The steely grey color and the concealed snap closure also make it stand out, and because of all this, I think it would be great for the sista who likes to par-tay. The one who likes to kick up her heels downtown but needs a jacket (not one too heavy, but still warm) too set her outfit off without clashing or drowning it out. A slim fit, this baby looks like the perfect option to me. What do you think?

For the Chick Who Loves Old-School Style With New-School Flair

Mark + James by Badgley Mischka Half-Cape Overlay Leather Jacket – $250 – Neiman Marcus

Not that you’re necessarily above a certain age bracket when I say “old school,” but this jacket is for the chick that loves classic pieces–capes for instance. The sista with the old soul will probably fall for some pleated leather and this round neckline. Who needs to wear an actual outfit when you can just throw this fly jacket on with some cigarette pants (or skinny jeans) and heels? Seriously, this jacket is everything. Almost reminds me of a robe. And it gets bonus points for the slimming waist belt and the asymmetrical hem.

For the Everyday Chick Who Just Wants to Shine

Coralie Genuine Leather Jacket – $268.58 – ASOS

For those looking for the traditional biker jacket but tired of the played out brown and black scenario, who knew a metallic hue could do so much for you? With a round, collarless neckline, quilted stitching on the sleeves and epaulettes on the shoulders with the bold sheen, you’ll be turning heads and keeping warm at the same time…just make sure you have a hat to throw in one of those pockets.

For the Baller

SPLURGE PURCHASE: DKNY Color Block Leather Biker Jacket – $995 – Net-A-Porter

Maybe you’ll cop this around tax return time, but to look forever young and cool, you need to get this pricey but gorgeous biker jacket in all its color-blocked glory. With a mix of gray, taupe and white, throw this over a pair of dark denim and keep it fresh and fly whether walking the streets or meeting up for a date. Start saving now so you can style on people later.
