SMH: Graphic Designer Sorry for MLK Stripper Party Promo

January 19th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Martin Luther King Jr. died for a lot, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t for the right to drink Ciroc and throw dollar bills at strippers. That’s the image a Miami graphic designer portrayed on a flyer advertising an “I Have a Dream” birthday bash this past Sunday.

Jeffrey Darnell Paul/ DJ Big Boy just barely uttered the words “I apologize” when an NBC newscaster asked what he was thinking when he made a flyer like that.

“What was I thinking?,” he responded. “Promotion, my business.”

The promotion didn’t work so well though. The gentleman’s club, which did not approve the flyers and claims Jeffrey acted on his own, called the entire celebration off and there was no party when the club opened its doors on MLK’s bday. Appearing halfway apologetic, although able to easily make this mistake again, Jeffrey said he wishes he would’ve taken the time to think about what he was putting on the flyer, which he says he spent no more than five minutes creating.

“If I could turn back the hands of time, it wouldn’t have happened…that’s something you don’t play with as I’ve learned.”

I still have a feeling he’ll find someway to disgrace the nation’s founders for President’s Day next month. I pretty much hate all of the flyers promoters come up with for night clubs anyway but this one by DJ Big Boy definitely takes the cake.

Do you think the DJ even realizes what was wrong with what he did? Did you come across any crazy MLK party promotions this past weekend?

I find this funny.  It shows us just how little we teach our kids about civil rights and equality.  The civil rights era has been broken down to MLK good, white people with dogs bad.  Then a kid grows up and does this and we can’t figure out what went wring.  I am sure DR King would be very disappointing with the majority of black Americas understanding of his legacy.  The man was a very compassionate intellectual.  We don’t have many of those these days.   We have talk radio and the constantly repeating talking heads on CNN.

That Fat Albert need to be shot for disrespecting King like that! Maybe he should get his fat azz out of that studio and go exercise! And to think, King died fighting for freedom for blacks and then n*ggas like him disrespecting him.

    • JN31

      Wow, really!?

“That Fat Albert need to be shot for disrespecting King like that!”…… “And to think, King died fighting for freedom for blacks and then n*ggas like him disrespecting him.”

Your statement above completely contradicts Dr. Kings message and pretty much places you in the same boat as the DJ. We live in a society where some people say/do the first thing that comes to mind without completely thinking it over.

To imply harm should be inflicted on someone goes against his non-violent beliefs. And to then use a derogatory term that he, and other civil rights activists fought not to be called is completely mind boggling. Whether or not any malice was intended by your comment, only you will know it. But it goes to show that maybe we all need to revisit a few of Dr. King’s speeches to make sure we totally get the message.

Bytch, don’t tell me what to say in my comment, I say what I think and feel and if you don’t like it, then f**k off and go watch the paint dry on the walls or something! And when I say “N*gga”, I meant for ignorance, not race fool.

        • JN31

Clearly you don’t even have the sense to debate an issue. When were you told what to say? You weren’t so I’m assuming along with ignorance, your reading skills may not be up to par.

Either way, debating with you is like attempting to impregnate a barren womb….. Pointless. Have a blessed day

jn, redbutterfly81 is the poster child for irony. their rebuttal to you is like an episode of the boondocks come to life — just hilariously blissed out in their own ignorance.

    • promethean_dreams

Yes lets shoot a man for disrespecting one of the kings of nonviolence.  That will show Dr king how much we appreciate him.

  • Diva Nyla

first of all i refuse to believe that this is real because no one could be this disrespectful so this has to be a practical joke

second why would you even reproduce this so others can see the ignorance
