How Drake’s Attack On Vanessa Bryant Shows His Immaturity

Well it seems that Drake might be on one.

Last week, the Hip-Hop superstar got all Thugnificent on Vanessa Bryant, soon-to-be ex wife of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, in a remix of a Rick Ross and French Montana song called “Stay Schemin’.” On it, Drake lyrically stood by his man, Kobe, by saying: “Kobe bout to lose 150 M’s. Kobe my n*gga. I hate it had to be him. Beyotch, you wasn’t wit me shootin in the gym.”

Oh Aubrey. It’s actually quite entertaining to watch you, curl up your top lips, snarl and take on this whole “gangsta” persona especially when you are probably best known for crooning about – and to – the ladies. But it’s apparent even celebrities can be stans too.  And we know how dogmatic folks are when they feel that their favorite celebrity is being violated in some way? They get defensive and start calling the mother of the children of their favorite basketball player “bitches.”

Nevertheless, I’m sure that there are some folks who agree with him. In particularly, those folks, who question the fairness of Kobe having to share half of his well-earned fortune with soon to be ex-wife, just because their marriage didn’t work out.  Some folks have already precluded that she must obviously be a gold-digger. Yet after 10 years of marriage, two offsprings and a litany of extra-martial affairs, not including the alleged rape accusation, Vanessa doesn’t exactly fit the stereotypical image of a gold-digger. In fact, she sounds a lot like a wife.

Lest we not forget that when Kobe was facing rape charges, Vanessa was sitting next to him at his press conference, holding his hand and listening dutifully as he publicly humiliated her in a halfway decent apology, courtesy of a well-honed PR team, who thought her addition at the press conference would help fix Kobe’s image. Yeah sure, she got a diamond ring out of it but given the choice between having a ring or a faithful, or at the least a more discreet, husband, I’m sure that she would probably have chosen the latter.

Where ever you fall on the “issue,” and yes it is in quotations because I don’t see Vanessa or Kobe discussing their financial split, you’ve got to acknowledge that there has been enough precedence for Kobe to know that his marriage might end in divorce. And ultimately, especially if you live in California, you just might have to share half your fortune with your former significant other.  So common sense should have kicked in that either: 1. If you don’t want to be faithful then don’t bother getting married, or 2. If you decide to get married, and are worried about your financial health, then you should probably get a prenuptial agreement.

Now back to Drizzy, it’s quite ironic that the champion of song written mostly for and about women still doesn’t really know how to deal with his mostly female audience.  First he calls us bitches and then he is telling us how much he loves us. Sounds quite abusive if you ask me. Likewise, I don’t understand rappers, who go after non-rappers, especially soon to be ex-wives of NBA ballers, who don’t have the skills or the machine behind them to defend themselves. Vanessa isn’t a rapper. However Ludacris and Common are rappers and they both dissed you. In fact, one of the rappers recently called you a syrupy sweet soda on your own track.  Instead of attacking defenseless mothers, perhaps Drake might want to save all those snappy punch lines, aka rhymes, for the attacks coming from those within his own craft.

gotta say – I’ve never been a fan of Drake. His voice kinda annoys me. His statements about Vanessa are beyond immature. Sounds like he needs to stay in his lane.

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

The more Drake opens his mouth to stuff that is none of his business the more respect i lose for him . . .

  • Michele C.

OMG – Why is he on Kobe’s **** like that.  Look I totally agree that if the wife/husband was not around when you started making the dough then you are not entitled to half; however, if your wife/husband is a stay at home taking care of house, kids, and other needs then they are entitled to same treatment you gave them when things are good.  If you were the one (like Kobe) who decided to step out on the marriage but you are also the bread winner then get ready to be the loser in the end.  Oh well – some people never learn

What if the situation was reversed? Let’s say, Serena Williams, gets
married and remains married to to her husband for 10 or 11 years. They
decide to split. They were married and live in Cali. They don’t have a
pre-nup. He gets half. Why, you ask? BECAUSE IT’S CALIFORNIA LAW! Kobe
was a millionaire when he married his wife. Why didn’t he hire an
attorney to draw up a simple document to protect his assets???

Drake should stop rubbing people the wrong way. He’s no Kanye and fans may start to turn on him for his various blow-ups and tantrums.

  • Rhine

Well he’s right…I’m not saying she shouldn’t be entitled to something, but HALF?! Damn! You didn’t do half the work to get this fortune..It’s ludacris to give someone half of someone elses hard earned money..regardless if it’s to a woman or man..As a people we should be way more advanced than that.
Child Support, I’m all for it, you have to take care of your kids..but all that spousal support shyt? Naaahh.. They say ” Well she’s acustomed to a certain lifestyle” Well isn’t that the reason we’re getting a divorce?? Your tired of ME..ME includes me and everything i bring to the table…Females can’t say ” Well, I don’t want to be apart of him anymore, but, I DO want to be apart of his money tho”…It’s so unfair smdh..

Whatever…prenups were around 10 years ago and lord knows he is not the first or the last person that will have to give half. Drake should be rapping about how dumb Kobe was for not having a prenup. I’m sure it was because he was in love, until he started raping…sorry I meant having sex with other women. He gets everything he deserves and should be glad he’s not in jail. BTW a person who stays in a marriage with a scandal like theirs for 10 years is not considered a gold digger…their considered a Saint.

        SMDH!!

    • mscoco04

oh boo hoo!!…sing a new song cause that “they shouldn’t get half cause they didn’t do half” crap is played already…it’s the LAW!!…cry to the authorities…Kobe will still be richer beyond many people’s dreams after all is said and done but one thing that won’t change is the fact that she is STILL the mother of HIS children and should be treated with some respect(lord knows he didn’t give it when they were married)..this basically all comes down taking responsibility for his actions and suffering the consequences thereof…so sick and tired of whinny A** people thinking they can do whatever and not have consequences

  • Hsc179

Getting Married Is a business now.Men when you get rich just dont get married.Period

  • Elle

Drake has never been married so he wouldn’t understand everything it takes to be a wife and mother. As a matter of fact, none of us know what encouragement or priceless things Vanessa could have done privately that publicaly advanced his career. It’s really none of our business or concern how much she gets but I’m sure she deserves it all. And for the record I’m not a fan of divorce, Vanessa or Kobe.

  • Toyaatl3

Well said;) Like Drake but you are so right, he has been silent when Luda and Common have come for him. Don’t be a bully, go fight some kids who will hit yo *SS back lol.

  • http://howtoloveyourreflection.com TheImageCoach

Drake, honey, grow the F up! NO woman who spends 10 years in a high-stress and high-visibility marriage should walk away with less than HALF. She kept that home ready for him, bore and is raising his children, and every time he came home beat down and tired, stressed out from the rumor mill and the drama of being a player in the NBA, she was THERE for him. No pay-him-back affairs and no vitriolic articles or tweets or anything.

She DESERVES to get half of what HE accumulated because she made it possible for him to have the kind of single-minded dedication to his profession that took him to the top of the game. One could justifiably argue that if Kobe had not had a stable home life – despite the fact that he did not seem to appreciate it – he would not be the man or the player he is now. His mental state HAD to play a part in his success, and who can be mentally tough and ready when your home life is messed up?

    IJS…

Drake… I love you, but you need to realize that you are not a “gangsta.”  Please don’t let the thugs of the industry get you in trouble and or make you look foolish.  I miss old mixtape Drizzy!

  • Msmykimoto2u

I completely agree with the writer. One, how can Drake talk about anybody wife when all he wife up is them video hoes and then gets all depressed when they screw him over. Pot calling kettle black much? This woman was with him for 10 yrs and stood by him while he made a fool out of her. She was thinking about her kids and trying to save a relationship for their sake.

    • mrs.j.cole

drake never wifed up anybody yeah he cries over getting his heart broken(he’s sensitive) but remember he’s young this is about entertainment kobe and his soon to be ex not paying drake no mind

WOW, I GET SO SICK AND TIRED OF THESE WOMEN MARRING MEN JUST TO DIVORCE THEM TO TAKE HALF OF EVERYTHING THAT MAN OWNS WHEN THEY DIDN’T WORK FOR A DAMN THING!

PAUL McCARTNEY WIFE NEVER WROTE ONE SONG!
DONALD TRUMP WIFE NEVER KNEW ANY THING ABOUT REALESTATE!
TIGER WOODS WIFE NEVER PLAYED GOLF!
CONGRESS REALLY SHOULD PASS A LAW AGAINST WOMEN TAKING HALF!

    • Msmykimoto2u

Thats the price of marriage! How about you telling these men you are trying to defend that if they keep it in their pants and stop being hoes, then they wouldnt be having these problems in the first place. Y get married? Stay single if you want to be a hoe. Like someone above said. He chose her, not the other way around then decided to cheat. His fault not hers. deal with it

      • http://soundcloud.com/kottikadotti Kotti ︻╦╤─ KaDotti ™ ©

WOW, YOU SOUND JUST LIKE ONE OF THOSE GOLD DIGGERS WHO HAVE NEVER WORK FOR A SINGLE THING IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. TELL ME HONESTLY, WITHOUT KOBE BRYANT WHAT WOULD VANESSA BRYANT HAVE…………………………NOT A DAMN THING!

        • mscoco04

and you sir sound bitter…this happened to you huh?…

          • http://twitter.com/ThzPrettyGrlRox AKA Stacey

I am sooooo with u on this 1 MSCOCO04…this guy has obviously been through something like this or doesn’t have anything that a woman wants in the first place…it’s simple…if u don’t your wife to take HALF…be a great man for her or don’t bother getting married…no…these women aren’t there on the field, the court, or in the business meetings…but uh…these men are FULLY AWARE of that…if someone inherit’s your  debt once he or she gets married (child support, loans, old utility bills etc) why shouldn’t a spouse be entitled to half…in marriage, it’s not yours or mine…it becomes OURS…it’s the UNION of two people…let’s not front…men do the same thing…they’re just more under the radar, but hey look at kevin federline (britney spears’ ex)…i don’t here any men complaining about him…plz…these men already know what they’re in for when it comes 2 women…they need 2 man up or put up…point. blank….period….

        • Gabbie

simple assumption from a simpleton. are you justifying his behaviour? If infidelity is all it takes for a spouse to get half, the one with the money should do the math and think with their big head….not the little one. The fact that she wasn’t that ambitious is irrelevant…in the past. Now it is what it is.

          • http://soundcloud.com/kottikadotti Kotti ︻╦╤─ KaDotti ™ ©

YOU SOUND JUST LIKE A GOLD DIGGER!

    • reese

Or what about the men who take half?  The law isn’t just for women and need no law there is a prenup.

      • Gabbie

I can;t control the legal system and if you’re a black man, good luck with that. In the big picture, it should be equal.  Men and women, choose your partners wisely!!!

    • Think

You sound so ignorant. This is his fault not hers. They didn’t get divorced because one of the kids wasn’t his. They got divorced because he cheated. Kobe isn’t whinning so why are you?

      • http://soundcloud.com/kottikadotti Kotti ︻╦╤─ KaDotti ™ ©

YOU SOUND JUST LIKE ONE OF THEM GOLD DIGGING WOMEN. I BET YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE A JOB. YOUR HUSBAND TAKES CARE OF YOU WHILE YOU SIT ON YOUR FAT BEHIND AND DO NOTHING ALL DAY! YOU WOMEN AUGHT TO BE GRATEFUL THAT A MAN IS WILLING TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR LAZY BUT OH NO THAT IS NOT ENOUGH YOU WANT HALF OF EVERY THING HE OWNS! ( WOMEN LIKE YOU HONESTLY MAKE ME WANT TO COMMIT SUCIDE) BUT ITS OKAY! YOU ARE NOTHING WITH A MAN!

  • ValdaDeDieu

Yes, it’s interesting how no price is put on fidelity, or the number of Doctor’s visits a wife has to have to cure this/that STD (after all, who asks their husband to wear a condom?)…Or a woman’s work behind the scenes as a wife and mother. It all boils down to dollar and cents to those without sense.

Yet the more a man’s efforts as a provider bring him, while you are providing him with a comfortable home, a sense of security and trust about his business/environment/family and the freedom of “no worries” to do the best he can–the more your contribution (tangible and intangible) is worth!

Deal with it, boys. Because men understand. She put in ten years–not two. Not three, not five. TEN. AIDS can take up to five years to show up. And Kobe is about as clean as the boyfriend of the girlfriend of the boyfriend of the girlfriend of the boyfriend of the boyfriend of the girlfriend he last cheated on Vanessa with. (Read it again if you don’t understand).

It’s funny that men who “love women” don’t get this…

    • Kierah

Let’s see, the news of the split broke at around the 10.5 year mark and the financial details had already been worked out. That tells me that papers had been served a few months ago. Vanessa let the marriage limp over the goal line just to ensure she would be automatically entitled to half.
She knew 2 years in that Kobe was a dirty dog. She may have suspected before but he admitted to the world what he did in Colorado. Why not leave then? Nope, she let a big gaudy ring take the place of fidelity.
Men will do as much as you allow them to get away with.
Yeah, Kobe should have been faithful. However, when you allow all this stuff to pass without consequences don’t cry about the 10 years you put in.
As for Drake, I don’t seek validation from the rap world. I know it’s not there.

      • Msgonzo10

She ain’t crying honey and don’t assume that she wasn’t trying to address this with Kobe throughout their marriage. Bottom line: for publicly standing by him when he was accused of raping a woman he claimed she deserves to get hit the hell off – it’s his fault that by law she’s entitled to half. I can promise you that we won’t hear a peep out of Kobe complaining about how much he’s shelling out so no one else should be upset.

      • ValdaDeDieu

So what price would you put on her health? Her peace of mind? Her contribution as wife and mother?  Or even more pertinent–if she is diagnosed with HIV in five years from the last time she had unprotected sex with him–how much is that worth?

In a marriage each gives what they have to. So her contribution is worth–what? Nada? If dollars and cents is the commodity here, then let it do the talking under the law! There once was a time when divorce meant destitution for a women, to the point where she would stay in a marriage–no matter what the damage to her mind, soul, body. Thankfully, we’re past that.

My above statement still stands. In addition, let him pay the price for his behavior. I hope each little ejaculation he had with each stripper, prostitute, escort, “girlfriend” and mistress was worth–$1,000,000 to him.

        He can afford it.

  • Sugar_Spice

I’m not a huge fan but I do like some of Drake’s music. I feel like he’s just trying to say something relevant to get people talking about him.

  • reese

Why are people getting so upset and involved? Kobe isn’t even this upset. He is trying to get reconcile with her.  Kobe is not an innocent victem.  Kobe could of been faithful, had her sign a prenup and not acted like some dog in heat.  He didn’t even try to hide it.  And those of you who think she is a gold digger he picked her.  No different from Halle and the model or Terrence Howard.

    • Ms_Sunshine9898

Exactly. she is the wife and she is entitled to half of everything. i don’t like her very much, but she put with a lot of bs over the years, especially with that rape trial. . .

  • gbanks_mua

Definitely not a fan. First his statements towards Lil Kim that should have been directed towards Ray J if I’m not mistaken, now this!!!!

  • Guest

I heard that!!!! I completely agree with this article. If Kobe was so worried about losing “150 M’s” to his WIFE, then he should have kept his d%$k in her ONLY!!!!!! Then maybe he could have avoided a divorce/payout!!!!!!! *blank stare*

    • Michele C.

Exactly – I can’t stand these people making excuses for why they should not have to pay when they messed up but were already paying for everything the entire time.

    • Neecee401

Or a pre-nup could of avoided all of this.

  • Gmarie

oh please, women get trashed in hip hop EVERYDAY. Am I saying it’s right? No. I am saying you need not single out one, when there is far worse out. Slow news day clearly
