January 9th, 2012 - By Rachel Louissaint

It is no secret that most black woman speak the same language. Whether it’s your mother, older sister, aunt or your friend it seems like in certain situations there are sayings that always seem to express the mood of the moment. Some of these sayings are cues that let you know where the conversation is going, and how the person feels. Here are some of the sayings that not all black woman use,  but we all know someone who does.

Most of those phrases are used by other races, all except for “Mmmmmm hmmmmm,” which makes me sick to my stomach every time I hear it.

    • LadyLark

They (every other race) use ‘mmmmm hmmmmmmm’ too intheir own way and not just in the hood.

  • adrienne

you forgot “i wish you would” lol

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_V25IIYWGKFQJFD6454EAH7CIZQ justdae

Wow! how stereotypical. I couldn’t relate to anything on that list and I’m not really sure what was the point of the post.

    • Pahleeze

Funny you couldn’t relate and your first word was “WOW”!
A word that should have been on the list :-) lol

  • Pahleeze

MN you are missing a few like:

    Okaayy!!
    Basically!!
    Seriously!!
    Wooowww!!
    Thats-a-negative!!
    HOT A$$ MESS!!
    and my personal favorite…”No Maam”!!

  • GUEST2

Just like other groups of women…  we have our own style, talk, language etc. but to the commentor GUEST: WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON WITH YOU!!!     latina women and white women roll their heads, snap their fingers and have that “ghetto behavior” as you stated.  And some of these women are educated.  So I will use a phrase that they did not mention in the article that black women use, ” dont get it twisted boo boo”

My friend just met a chocolate man on Blackwhitemeet.COMit’s where for men and women looking for interracial’ship for a fabulous lifestyle
It’s a nice place for black white sing’les, to interact with each other…no bounds or extremes in front of true love.

  • Dashawna

Can we add Tasha Mack – Now what now? and for measure Girl/Boy Bye!

  • Chessica450

    what about…”I KNOW DATS RIGHT!”….you slippin@ Madamenoire

  • Nia

I admit I am guilty of the first and the last “Awe Hail Nooo!” and “Whaaaaa?!”. I am also guilty of other phrases such as “Chile please”,  ”Kick rocks!!” and “Seriously?”. LOL

    • LadyLark

Kick rocks is my fave, but I first heard it years ago from a white friend of mine. LOL

  • Guest

This is an incredibly stupid and pointless posting. And then black women always act surprised when white folks categorize all of us into one group by reiterating the exact contents of this article. How are they supposed to know any better and grow from their ignorance if media outlets designed to keep the black population informed, endorse this foolishness?

    Favorite things black women say

    1.i need
    2.can I
    3.would you
    4.could you

Sounds like a bitter black man.

      • http://twitter.com/HighSadiddy1 Tricia Clark

lol i know right, i guess he’s been burned to many times!

        • Team nymphis

I would never allow myself to get burned by a black or any other female.but I have noticed that sistas are the first to ask about how much my table cost instead of asking what can they bring to it.

          • http://twitter.com/HighSadiddy1 Tricia Clark

I don’t know what asking table prices is about, but I’m black and I wasn’t raised like that. Sorry I’m not a part of your statistic! No one should come to any type of relationship empty handed looking for a handout!

    • JustAshley

Dude what happened to you? You were mad funny back in the day and now you just seem angry all the time. What did she do to you? From a sis to my bro, you need to keep in mind that if this chick hurt you……YOU were the one to pick her. You can’t be mad at every black woman because your radar got mixed up. Hope you work through your pain and find your way back to love. :)

      …Negative

    • Pahleeze

      uummm NO!

Every race has a special lingo, true a lot of us black women use certain common expressions. What I really find amusing is the way some whites try to sound and talk like they’re black, like eminem for example so how about writing a article about that.

Can we seriously get over people saying, “oh you act black”! Stop putting connotations on color!

      • MISRA

Maybe you people don’t know about this but Black Women from Europe and Africa use those phrases. No matter the language they speak, the attitude and the feeling behind those phrases are just the same.
So yeah, it might be related to color. And there is nothing wrong with that.

When you hear a black woman talk like that, you certainly know that she comes from a certain urban class. Some may like it or can related but most educated men will probably will prefer to avoid because you knwo that the neck will start rolling along with finger snapping and arms/being pointed in your face to get some kind of public approval (e.g. ghetto behavior).

That’s ridiculous. I graduated from a top university with many affluent black women who use these phrases.

    • Sugar_Spice

I’d have to respectfully disagree with you.  I graduated from a top California University & was raised in a middle class neighborhood in So. Cal. & I use some of these phrases.  Yes black woman do tend to be more animated than others but not all of us roll our necks or snap our fingers.

      • LadyLark

We’re definitely not more animated than my Italian chicas.

I don’t think saying these words mean you’re ghetto. Trust I know people from the suburbs who say stuff like this. I think the slang is common in the black community and all black people are NOT ghetto. White people  have their slang too and me being a person who uses both, where does that put me?

And if that is who the person is and most “intelligent men” will not approve, then so be it, it wasn’t meant to be…Is one’s world suppose to end?

    • Cha-Cha

I’m not hood/ghetto at ALL… and I say “OH Hell No” all the time… Although, I never snap my fingers and roll my neck unless I’m getting my dance on! And I know many suburban women who use some of these phrases.

    • Nia

Sorry hon, but I grew up in the suburbs of Pennsylvania. No where near a ghetto. I learned most of these phrases from tv.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F5DZP7D3Q4WYNT2XAN4YH5ZXLM Itz_her

oh soo black women aren’t allowed to say mhmm…which I heard LOTS of people of all races say. Even men.
