Keeping it Classy: Positive Black Reality Stars

December 30th, 2011 - By Grace N. Edwards

Tia and TameraWhen you think of Black reality stars, you probably think about trash-talking, hair-pulling, materialistic “housewives” that act up for the cameras. Some have blamed  reality TV shows like the Real Housewives and Basketball Wives for glorifying negative behavior and perpetuating stereotypes especially of Black women. There are, however, some Black reality stars that keep it positive and uplifting. I know what you’re thinking: positive+reality TV = boring. However, reality can be entertaining without all the excessive drama. Here are some Black reality stars that are fun to watch and keep it classy.

Thank you for the article! I’m sick about hearing about shows about “wives” and “girlfriends” nor watch that trash. I love Chef Robbie, the Braxtons and Tia and Tamera

I’m surprised you didn’t include Terry Crews and his family, though… But of course barely anybody even knows about that show.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Chef Roble & Co. and the Braxton’s.

Man Chef Roble is the bomb, I feel in love w/that show the 1st episode. I love his whole crew and showing Black YOUNG Chefs who can duke it out w/ the best of them and his pastry chef, man she is assume -true talents. I love Tia and Tamera since I was a child grew up on them. The Braxton’s remind me of most Black families I know-they have “universal” Crazy issue-not inner city drug induced issues like Keyshia Coles family-which is mostly represented of the Black family. I never seen the Sweet Pie show got to find the episodes on the net.
