Go Divas! (*does two snaps*)

For this weekend’s VH1 Divas special, all of your favorite soul singers and sistahs with voices got dolled up for both the carpet and the big stage. While all the talk is about their awesome performances, we should take a minute to chat about their fashion choices as well.

Jilly from Phiilly was looking anything but blue in this blueburry-colored ensemble that had flashbulbs on fire, baby! Her floor-length gown was ruched and peppered with small details, including tiny rhinestones/crystals in between her girls. She added some flair to the fit with a big-ol luxurious blue and black fur coat and brought it back to simplicity with a clean black clutch, and medium-sized silver hoops. She topped it all of with a braided hump and some bright bling on her wrist and fingers.

Everyone knows that ever since homegirl lost weight, you can’t keep her from showing off that bodacious bod. And I’m not mad at her!  She jumped on the carpet in this…let’s just call it beige-ish…short stretchy number with lace detailing around the neckline. The v-neck dress left just enough leg out for her thigh high sparkly boots and their belted detail. Her jewelry was also blinged out with smarkly bangles, a couple fly rings, some major hoops and what looks like some extra material from the dress wrapped around the neck. To finish off the whole look she went for a fun bob with fresh curls and some sassy and sophisticated makeup.

So what do we think? If you ask me, both ladies definitely captured the “diva” look! However, if I was to choose, I would probably go for Jill’s ensemble over JHud’s. Jennifer’s look was a little to “fresh” for me (and confusing with the random neck attire), but she definitely looks hot in it. Now, if Jill could drop the fur coat and was rocking Jennifer’s hair, this would read me all over. But I still like it. Steal, for Jilly from Philly (minus the obnoxious coat) and a polite stop it for Jenn. What do you think?

I love them both.  They obviously feel good about themselves individually in their ensembles.  A+ from me.

  • Shaunille1976

I think they are both in there on lane.  The comments on JHud is ridiculous.  She did lose a a lot of weight and naturally she wants to show off your figure…she earned.  The negative comments aren’t neccessary.  Just judge the outfits…not her head, legs or knees.  How many of you can pull this look off w cellulite and rolls…give me a break.  Now with that being said I like them both but Jill Scott was more elegant and JHud was more commerical.

GIRL STOP!!! JENNIFER PLEASE COME SEE ME, SO I CAN HELP YOU WITH THE STYLE ISSUE YOU ARE EXPERIENCING!

I love both of there styles. They have both come a long way, and continue to show, and define what true black beauty can provide for the strong black sister. Be it in a dashiki, blow, ripped jeans, whatever. Its being done the Right way, not the “jones’ way”

I love, love, love Jill’s dress, I like her classy choice and accessories!!! But J Hudd….sorry boo but that just isn’t a good look for you. I like her whether she is big or small but to me, her outfit is a NO, NO!!!! the boots and then the collar make her head look huge….#fail

  • liz

i really don’t like either or these.  Their hair and makeup is pretty but the i don’t think either’s fashion is flattering.

I vote Jill’s, J. Hud look like she brought her outfit $10 from either Rainbow or Discovery and her boots come from Chernin’s

love jill scott’s outfit. jennifer hudson looks like she got her dress and shoes at Bebe or Forever 21.

I like JHud’s look, it’s very disco diva! I like that she is trying different looks and the short hair is a winner!! The colour of Jill Scott’s dress is so beautiful, that blue is so regal and GORGEOUS! I’m a fan of both.

I must say that the outfits were made to stand alone..  Side by side all I see is a hot mess with Ms. Scott having the better fashion sense.  Whatever statement Ms. Jennifer Hudson was trying to make was lost on me when I saw those boots paired with the detailing on the neckline of her dress.   She’s a beautiful woman, but someone has to teach her about the Highlight Point System in fashion.  She definitely has more than 5, 6 if we include her blush which means too much going on at once!

Ms. Jill Scott looks great.  She understands the Highlight Point System  a bit better.  She would have almost made it had it not been for one point that people often forget about, and that’s the cleavage.  That counts as a point, sorry.  If she dropped any one of the other major highlights of her outfit the rest would fit just right and she would only hit that 3 point mark instead of her fur coat induced 4.

    1.  Carpet events you are allowed 3 points
    2.  Night out on the town you are allowed up to 5 points as long as you don’t get crazy. (Can not be combined with carpet event.)
    3.  Everyday look up to 4 points max.

But the previous thoughts are what I believe.

Jennifer could wait to get smaller to wear certain outfits… But the one she’s wearing wouldn’t look good on any size in my opinion… I don’t like it. The color is pretty though. Love Jill’s dress

    • guest

YEAH, JHUDS DRESS IS AN UGLY DRESS, PERIOD.

  • Shelourb

They both look nice but I think JHud is to old for outfits like that when it comes to a special/classy event. It looks more like a cocktail party dress….I like it but not for this event. I guess you can JHud get 5pts and Jill gets 10…..she need to help her lil sistha aka JHud out next time

  • sofie212

LOL i thought that was a bratz figurine!

  • Nicole4music

Love Jill but the outfit wasn’t working for me. J-Hud is a little too thin to wearing the underwhelming outfit.

  • Mrsindependent

I’m loving Jill Scott and her fashion! I thought I heard somewhere she lost weight, maybe its the dress. Jhud, i don’t know. Word to the wise, if u have a big head and small figure donot tie anything around ur neck it makes it look bigger. Also be careful how u style ur hair. Jhud cannot model. She stands weird. Jill Scott can definitely model.

    • Thickhoneypeach

You are so right about JHud. I can’t figure out if she’s knock kneed or just has a weird stance. I noticed  in her Weight Watchers Commercials, that one of her knees turn in, or something. It just looks strange.

      • Jessica Williams

i think she is pigeon toed and knock kneed. bad combo, she must teach herself how to stand, lol!

        • Getit!

It’s the thighs. They are smaller but they(‘re) still play fighting. “You hit me, I hit you back.”

    • Mikkki

lol!! so true about Jhud…I actually like her outfit though…not really feeling Jill’s outfit…I still love her big or small

      • Jessica Williams

I like Jhud’s dress, but the boots and the thing around her neck must go. I love anything Jill Scott…..except that coat is out of place. It’s nice, but a little much.
