Over Age Acne? Learn How To Beat the Bumps

December 10th, 2011 - By Christelyn Karazin

If you’re anything like me, you probably thought that those pimples that plagued your nose, forehead and chin should have cleared upon high school graduation. But here it is, a decade out of college, and you’re STILL waking up to the white, pustulating monstrosities that no amount of Cover Girl, Mac, or Mabelline will camouflage.

It turns out pimples are more than just a hormonal problem. Combine environmental pollution, make-up, overactive oil glands and 99-cent facial cleanser full of fillers, preservatives and irritants and you, madame, have a problem. Don’t worry we’ve got the solution!

Use these daily facial tips to attack your acne…

Ive always had really bad acne. I tried the chemicals, like Proactiv and whatnot. It helped for a few months, but then my acne came back with a force. You know what truly helps?

-Staying hydrated with water and organic teas, like green tea and black tea.
-Laying off the sweets and bread, as well as junk food.
-Not eating right before you go to bed.
-Taking vitamin supplements, like flaxseed, fish oil, vitamin C, and zinc.

Wash your face once a day, before bed. Fill a medium sized bowl with two/three tablespoons dissolved sea salt and warm (NOT HOT) water, and soak your face, then cleanse with a gentle cleanser, like Cetaphil.  Afterwards, use a gentle moisturizer and a benzoyl peroxide moisturizer for spot treatment.

The trick is to not to strip your skin of its natural protective barrier with chemicals. These chemicals work in the beginning, but as soon as you use them for too long or stop, your skin becomes ten times worse because its learned to depend on them. Instead nurture this barrier with natural products and good nutrition.

If you took the time to read this comment, just try it. Ive been researching skin care for a few years, and  its the only thing so far thats worked for me.

Yes I agree sea salt is good….I found a home remedy for that by using sea salt combine with olive oil as a facial scrub……..Its great for exfoliating and detoxing the skin.

Home remedies are good…..For example using lemon or lime and mixing with H2O in a spray bottle (50% each)…….It can be used as a toner as well as for fighting acne.

I love this article! I am on my way to throw out my face wash which is Target’s version of St. Ives…. it has parabens and St. Ive’s does not! I don’t use many things with parabens but I bought it before my no paraben kick.. I had no idea they aged your skin prematurely.

I’m the same age and have had previous issues with oily skin but w/ professional school and stopping birth control my skin went bananas. I realized I had sensitive skin and despite microderm and strong chemical my acne was worsening. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MARIO BADESCU products starts with the enzyme cleanser and the drying lotion (to touch up spots). I now know longer pick zits because there are NONE. I initially bought a whole set ($70) but now I do not need to use all the extras. (the true sign of a great brand). Milk of magnesia works to take out the daily oil (I used to look like the BP spill). Hope this helps

Now this may not work for everybody but i did wonders for me… For years I have tried all the products and regimes, and a few months ago I got sick of it. I stopped using moisturizer, even the kind that is made for acne prone skin. I stopped washing my face at night. I also made a real effort not to pick at my face. Days in I noticed a big difference. Now I rarely get pimples at all. I wash my face once a day and exfoliate every few days, and my diet has not changed.

TLDR: Stop touching your face so much, washing it so much, using so many products.

Really?  After being out in the elements all day, you don’t wash your face at night?  Wow!

      • Bhfkjhfjhwjhsa

Nope! But if you think about it, unless you’re steam cleaning your bedding every night, you sleep in all the sweat and whatnot you accumulate from your hair, face and hands while you’re sleeping anyway.

Dove soap for cleansing, dime size drop of olive oil to moisturizer and/or same amount of milk of magnesia on face for oil control-it works! Clearsil for occasional breakouts!
