I watched you both on Dr. Phil.  Open marriage is no longer for me….at 63 years of age I’m lucky I have an open mind.  But I want to commend and support what, and the way in which, you teach your children. I have three offspring, ages 44, 36, and 23, and I allowed each of them to become sexually active with their boyfriend/girlfriends when they were ready, usually between ages 12 and 15. They are all professional adults.
Human evolution is a fact…physically, mentally, emotionally, and consciously.  You are solidly part of that process. Just as my parents generation, (though not my parents,) were certain that rock music would corrupt ALL teens and young people, so to do adults today not trust the evolution of their childrens’ thoughts and experiences. They don’t trust their children.  I’ve learned more from my children, and considering what was best for their futures, than any other resource of my life.
So, I applaud you fervently for your courage and dedication. I am rooting for you.
If I may make one suggestion, however, please don’t discuss your notions about fear and STDs in the same breath as your other understandings.  Not many people can even entertain the idea that fear can rule your life and make you susceptable to any sort of danger, internal or external.
