More Firms Choose Brooklyn

(Wall Street Journal) — Three small companies will bring about 60 jobs to the Brooklyn Army Terminal, showing that at least some industrial concerns are starting to expand in the city.  The Bloomberg administration has made it a priority to retain and expand the city’s industrial work force. The city owns more than 5.7 million square feet in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park area, of which the Brooklyn Army Terminal is the largest component, and is in the process of renovating and attracting industrial tenants to a number of these buildings.  One of the terminal’s new tenants, Artistic Furniture Makers, a small maker of high-end furniture, had moved its facilities from New York City to North Carolina a decade ago in search of cheaper space. It now plans to move a small satellite production facility back to the city.
