It was in 2018 that we watched Mia Bally and Tristan Thompson go through one trainwreck of a marriage on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight. Part of the Dallas group of couples, they were united pretty innocently, but came into their short-lived marriage with baggage that they couldn’t get out from under. Mia had been accused by her ex of stalking him, and Tristan couldn’t forgive her for not being honest about that entire situation. After struggling to communicate clearly, dealing with trust issues and a lot of manipulative, controlling behavior on both parties’ part, they called it quits with Mia filing for divorce in September of 2018 while the series was still airing. That experience could probably tank anyone’s perspective on love, and it would be understandable. However, Tristan, at least, has been able to move forward from his first marriage and divorce and is getting married again.
In case you missed it, he popped the question to Rachel Ashley in June, calling her a queen on social media after announcing the news.
“We are all created for a purpose. I’ve identified mine,” he wrote. “Loving and serving God. And now loving and leading you.”
He went public with Rachel on Valentine’s Day earlier this, and following their engagement news, the couple have moved into a home together in Dallas from Houston.
Rachel is a former Miss Texas 2014. She has had nothing but great things to say about Tristan since she went public with their relationship back in May. After he popped the question, she spoke openly on her Instagram about her excitement over being his future wife.
“It is said that you won’t meet your soulmate until you are both ready to say hello to forever…And just like that, I said YES to forever with my soulmate,” she said. “Tristan Stephon Thompson, you are forever and always the hero of my heart, my best friend, my comfort, my home, and the love of my life. I cannot wait to be your wife.”
Tristan seems to be in a great place since things played out poorly on national television for him with Mia and some not-so-great comments were made by him about preferring his women lighter and leaner. People can grow though, and it looks like he’s found someone to grow with.
