Tempo Networks, often referred to as the MTV of the Caribbean, is the brainchild of the Virgin Islands native and Newark resident, Frederick A. Morton. It’s hard to believe but before Tempo Networks started reaching millions of Caribbean households from Dominica to St. Lucia, the cluster of islands never shared a common media channel. Imagine a United States without any national networks like NBC or CNN.
While working at MTV as head of litigation, Morton knew that it was up to him to bridge the gap amongst the islands and help them communicate their shared appreciation for Carib culture.
The Atlanta Post interviewed Morton at the company’s headquarters in Newark, New Jersey (yes, we know it’s not the Caribbean) to talk about his journey as an entrepreneur and as a trailblazer in media.
