When Nipsey Hussle was killed in March, it was a loss that impacted a lot of people, including Reginae Carter.
The 20-year-old reality TV personality was particularly close to the situation because her brother Cameron is the son of Lauren London and was raised with Nipsey as a father figure. On Monday night’s episode of T.I. & Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle, Reginae talked about another reason why the loss hit so close to home.
“I just went into an anxiety because two weeks ago, I was just over there and she was telling me how much she loved Nip and she was about to go out with him and just all of that, and he’s gone,” she said while speaking with her mom, Toya Wright. “You only live one life and it can be taken like this [snaps fingers].”
Nipsey’s death also put some things into perspective when it comes to her relationship with her own father. While we’ve often seen Reginae with Lil Wayne and they seem to have a good relationship, she revealed that they don’t spend very much quality time with one another. Being reminded of mortality brought a sense of urgency to her desire to get more from her famous father other than money.
“Nipsey woke a lot of people up. Lauren even woke a lot of people up,” she said. “Like, I want to spend more time with my dad.”
Toya spoke up, reminding Reginae that she used to tell her all of the time that she could get all the money in the world from her father, but it’s the time he puts in with her, or lack thereof, that she will actually remember when it’s all said and done.
“When Reginae was growing up, her dad was involved in her life, and I think as he got busier and busier, they don’t really get to spend as much time as she would like,” Toya said in her confessional. “And I think it’s starting to affect her, and I just think they need to work that out.”
Though she’s been appreciative of the good life he’s provided for her, she just needs more. They both do.
“I do feel like he’s trying because he provides for us a lot. I understand that, but what I be telling him is like, ‘Daddy, OK, we got that part, but let’s go somewhere. Let’s go bowling. Let’s go to the movies; just things like that that we need,” she said. “We need memories.”
Reginae is the rapper’s firstborn. He has three other children in Dwayne III, Cameron and Neal (the latter with singer Nivea).
