Anslem “NWSO” Samuel’s Naked With Socks On is an award-winning relationship blog. Each week, NWSO will share his candid thoughts on women, love, life and all the fun stuff in between with Madame Noire.

I remarked in the “5 Things I Love/Hate About Women in the Summer”A Man’s View About Women in the Summer” post week before last that: “I actually appreciate a slight muffin top. It can be cute in small doses, or maybe that’s just me.”

I didn’t think much of the statement, but when one Madame by the name of 404Kim later commented that this was the “First. Time. Ever!” she had heard a man say that, I figured I could elaborate. The key phrase here is a little. In the right proportion, a woman with a slight pouch can be Hot to me in a “cute” kinda way.

To be clear, I’m not talking about overflowing mounds of doughy flesh around a woman’s waist, but a cute little pouch just above the belt line is one of my quirky turn-ons. The main reason being is that it shows a woman as being “real” in my eyes.

Working in the magazine business for over a decade, I know the visual trickery that’s possible through the wonders of Photoshop. In fact, I remember early on in my career walking into an art director’s office and seeing him whittle this particular female artist down to size. He erased the cellulite in her thighs, sharpened the arch of her back, and peeled back a few layers on her arms. By time he was done, the only original thing that remained was her head. I swear she went from a size 8 to a 2 in a matter of mouse clicks.

Based on that and other horrors I’ve witnessed over the years, I’ve learned that magazines and TV are not the reality. I do remember this one cover of King magazine though with Lauren London and what I loved about it—other than her being on my cute list last week—is that the King editors didn’t airbrush her slight muffin top.

When I asked the then-editor about the decision, he said he wanted to portray her “reality” and that, besides, she really didn’t need to be Photoshopped. If only more magazines and media outlets felt the same, we’d have less women going under the knife in hopes of getting the “perfect” body and more men appreciating women for whom they are: flaws and all.

Don’t get me wrong, I like to look at the fantasy woman that’s plastered on magazine covers and movie posters just as much as the next guy, but I know the difference between fiction and reality. Real women have curves that don’t always fit in an hourglass figure. Besides, I never had—and probably never will have—the abs of steel that Mehcad Brooks has so if a woman can overlook my less-than-superb waistline, the least I can do is appreciate her muffin top or pouch, right?

Since I’ve revealed my own quirky turn-on, I’m curious to hear what you Madames think of muffin tops and pouches, and if there are any bodily elements on a man that are surprisingly Hot to you.
