(Chicago Sun Times) — The Chicago metropolitan area lost 5 percent of its high-tech jobs in 2009 from the year earlier as the recession hit home, but it still ranks seventh in the nation in high-tech employment, says a report to be released Wednesday.  The biggest job declines were in Internet and telecommunications services, down 2,300 jobs; computer systems design and related services, down 1,500 jobs, and electronic components manufacturing, with a loss of 900 jobs. The loss of 8,200 jobs represents a particularly harsh blow because these types of jobs pay $82,500 on average, or 64 percent more than the metro area’s private-sector wage.
