Aside from his blockbuster, game-changing films and his thoughts on said projects, we don’t know much about his personal life. But a recent image from a hairstylist’s Instagram page recently revealed a new development in the director’s life.
The picture features Ryan Coogler and his very pregnant wife Zinzi Evans.
While we don’t know much about Evans, Coogler has consistently thanked her for the role she’s played in his career. During his interview with Hot 97, Coogler shared that Evans, who was his girlfriend at the time, bought him the software to help him begin writing screenplays.
“My wife, she was my girl at the time, [and] they had a software where you could write screenplays,” he told radio hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenburg and Laura Stylez. “I was trying to write in Microsoft Word. It’s impossible because your format gotta be right. I was broke, playing football on the little scholarship money. And my wife scrapped together some cheese and bought me Final Draft, which is the software that you write your movies on. And she got me that.”
The gift launched his career.
As far as children go, in an interview last year with The YBF, Coogler spoke about having children in the future and how shooting Black Panther influenced his gender preference.
“I found I want daughters real, real bad. Like plural. I thought, making Fruitvale (Station), I want kids. But like, on this one, I have to have some daughters.”
The couple started dating when they were in college and married in 2016. It will be their first child together.
