Today is NeNe Leakes‘ 51st birthday, and to celebrate it, we thought we’d take a look back, or “get into” as she likes to say, some of her best fashion moves over the years. When Leakes initially gained fame, she wore skintight dresses with sky-high heels and not the most flattering wigs. She even recently said that if she could have given her younger self some advice in terms of changing her look from head to toe in Season 1 of Real Housewives of Atlanta, it would be to go back home and start all over.
“Oh my god, Season 1 NeNe would need to just do everything over,” she said in a chat with The Lookbook. “I mean no, gosh, she should take her hair off and throw it away, change her makeup, like, really, girl? Season 1 NeNe needs to just take it all off, girl. Everything. Isn’t that crazy how you look in the mirror and you think the mirror’s telling you the truth, but my mirror lied to me a lot of times.”
But as the years went on and she had more and more red carpets and cameras to be in front of, the reality star hit a chic stride. She traded in the bodycon dresses for fun separates, flowing gowns, dresses with a lot of detail and her go-to clutch. Let’s not forget the softer hair. She kept the sky-high stilettos, but left the flashier joints in her closet. Since then, she’s managed to look pretty fabulous, and she even has a boutique in Duluth, Georgia, the Swagg Boutique, to help others step their fashion up, too. Overall, she’s come a long way.
With that being said, let’s check out some of her fashion hits since she decided to undergo a style transformation in honor of the birthday girl’s born day.
