It goes without saying: Nigerians are plentiful. In fact, one in five Africans is Nigerian and they certainly represent throughout the Diaspora.  Much of the time, however, the over 150 million Nigerians in the world are unfairly associated with 419 email scams.  More often than not, Nigerians are contributing to the international business and cultural landscape in a major and legitimate way.  One stereotype that is true is that Nigerians are some of the hardest working people on the planet and they have the accolades to show for it.

This year, Nigeria is celebrating the 50th year anniversary of its independence from the United Kingdom. In honor of  this very important milestone, we decided to highlight a handful of the country’s international superstars who have propelled their country into the spotlight and shine as an example of how to thrive creatively and professionally in their respective fields.

Without further ado, here’s our list of 10 very interesting things you can learn from a Nigerian.

With all due respect to my Nigerian brothers and sister. I am black american and I have lots of Nigerian friends and travel there often. People who have not been to Nigeria, the Niger Delta area where the oil is does not really know the plight of the people there. It is the struggle to survive and be sucessful there that makes Nigerians come here and succeed. If Nigeria could rid itself of all the corruption, it would be the third super power nation on the planet. The problem now in Nigeria is the Asian invasion. Asians, especially the Chinese are taking over Nigeria and other parts of Africa by danggling money, loans and credit like carrots in front of the African people. The Chinese pretend to have good intentions, but will soon own the land and suppress the African people. They use their wealth to conquer Nigeria and it is out of greed and desperation that Nigerians will accept it. That is the bigger picture than anything here is written about but only a few can see what is happening.

    nice article !

Mickey D, those are ignorant Nigerians. I am Nigerian/Brit and I seen fair share of African Americans taking about Africans which is sometimes funny. Ignorant folks are everywhere, don't hate, educate:)

  • marcia hater

i bet even marcia has a bit of nigerian in her genes

Don't call me brother until you get your own house in order.

While most everyone in the workplace talking mess the Nigerian Brother talks about Gospel, science, economics, world affairs, philosophy, business. Another Nigerian Brother got shot down i my neighborhood for wearing real croc leather shoes. Nasty side posts about Nigerians sounds like a case of Detroit-itis i.,e. the folks who go on vacation and the folks who wait for YOU_ALL to go on vacation.

      What is your point?
Greedy and foolish people get scammed all the time
Yes,Nigerians are intelligent people, many use their intelligence in progressive and productive activities while some are into nefarious activities
Those Nigerians that are shown here are just the 10 among millions
Black Americans sell drugs it would be foolish of my to generalise and assume that their are more drug dealers than those that go to colledge
You rambling on like the village idiot will not change the fact that most Nigerians are hard workers that strive to do their best in industry that they might find themselves

@African American, i have pains in my sides from laughing so hard after reading your post.

Thank you so much for further exposing the damaged, fraudulent and disillusioned soul called MARCIA.

Wow. 20+ posts condemning "Marcia" and only about three condemning the words of "Busuyi O." whose words read like they came off of Stormfront. Very telling that few people denounced those words.

No such thing as Black American r Black English eh? Ignorance is bliss!

    • TQA

From what I gathered from your posts, it would seem you assume that "Western Blacks" are better than "African Blacks". Okay let’s assume that is true in your world.

Now between the Western Blacks you are advocating for, i.e. Black British and Black Americans, who do you feel is better? Because since they were raised in different environment, and have different cultures, they both cannot be the same. One has to be greater/better than the other.

So from your myopic view of the world, which one is better? the Black British, or the Black Americans?

I'd really like to have your opinion on that one.

As a humble African American male who has been blessed to encounter numerous Nigerians and Africans through college and work, I would like to apologize on behalf of Marcia. I'm thankful that most of you don't fall for her bait and are still being respectful and not getting into her race-baiting.

I did a google search on Marcia and realized she's a lost cause. She's a loudmouth racist with deep-seated hatred for not just Nigerians but anyone who doesnt look like her. She also seems to hate jews just as much. To understand the retard that is Marcia, you need to look no further than @ her blog – http://parliamentshumarrightsrecord.blogspot.com/

She even accuses President Barack Obama of calling himself Barry Soetoro when speaking to black people. Where she got that from, I have no clue. She's based in the UK and has no clue what's going on in the US so I wonder where she pulls these "facts" from. Here's a direct link to said post.

I guess she hates Obama because he's "tainted" by African blood.

Thankfully of note, however is the fact that like every mumbling, stuttering, doddering fool, she seems to be talking to herself like a deranged, homeless hag. Not one single one of her blog entries has been worthy of comment from anyone on the internet. Her blogful of vitriol has been authored and audienced by her alone until now. It's no wonder she enjoys the attention here and is obviously masturbating to the multitude of responses she's gaining.

Let her be. Let her torment herself with all the hate inside. LEt her hate hard and long, and let it build up till it implodes within. Let Marcia be.

OMG just went to see Marcia´s blog. In the "About me" section she says : "We are preparing a legal case against the UK government and Queen for our Reparations and repatriation". I wonder how someone who claims to be involved in something like this would not know that Nigeria has never ever received any reparation money from the UK. I also wonder what kind of research she does when she doesn´t even know the population of the world´s most populous black nation, Nigeria. She says 300 million when there are indeed, 150 million Nigerians. She certainly is deranged. Really sick woman.

You make valid points. The more we stay divided, the more limited our progress and success is destined to be.

  • Kamoze357

My hat off to you for using sound judgment and a cool head. The division amongst our family is what is ultimately keeping us down.

  • Kamoze357

Hmmm, Caught? or did some of them get sold out by the "survivors"? If other Africans are making comments like that it is sad indeed.
