(WSJ) — Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday ordered city agencies to slash their budgets by another $2 billion between now and June 2012, with roughly $800 million in cuts to be realized in the current fiscal year.
The mayor demanded the city’s uniformed forces, including the district attorney’s offices, and the Education Department cut their budgets by 2.7% this fiscal year and 4% the following. Mr. Bloomberg ordered all other agencies to reduce their budgets by 5.4% this fiscal year and 8% the next.
