As the fashion industry continues to embrace the modern standards of beauty, inclusivity and representation, it means that more than ever before, opportunities are available for those who fit outside the standard European standard of beauty—including the beautifully melanated model Duckie Thot. Now, L’Oréal Paris is showing love to the in-demand model in a major way.

At only 22, Duckie Thot has managed to become a major player in the modeling world in the very short time-span of 5 years. It’s not just her statuesque frame and stunning good looks, her rise is also due to her social media advocacy of inclusion and diversity in the fashion world and her openness regarding her own struggles with the discrimination the fashion industry can bring.

Her frank online discussions about having to bring her own makeup shades to photo shoots because makeup artists on set didn’t have any that was dark enough for her rich skin tone or dealing with hairstylists who were uneducated in styling black hair, have inspired her legions of fans to express their similar issues with unconventional beauty. Now, international cosmetics brand L’Oréal Paris is putting Duckie Thot front and center by naming her the newest L’Oréal Paris global spokeswoman to inspire a new generation.

At Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer ‘19, Thot will make her debut brand appearance for Le Défilé L’Oréal Paris, the first catwalk show on the Seine River. Alongside fellow brand ambassadors, she will showcase the same talent that makes her one of fashion’s most wanted names. Thot’s first L’Oréal Paris campaigns will be Volume Million Lashes, Colorista, Infallible Foundation and Rouge Signature.

Speaking about being the latest member of the L’Oréal Paris family and what it means to her, Thot offered a heartfelt sentiment. “I’m honored to represent L’Oréal Paris, a brand that celebrates infinite ways to be beautiful and makes products for all women. I’m looking forward to helping more girls love the beauty of their dark skin. In my mind, I’m going back in time and telling the young girl I was: ‘Dream big, work hard and trust in yourself girl because one day you’re going to say ‘yes’ to the N°1 beauty brand!”

L’Oréal Paris Global President, Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou had nothing but great things to say about Thot and what her current place in the fashion industry means for a new generation of young women. “While emerging in a new generation of models, Duckie Thot knows how to use her voice to match the strength of her images. Her energy and message of inclusivity makes her a perfect recruit for the L’Oréal Paris family: original and confident in her self-worth. We’re delighted to welcome Duckie for her to continue motivating women to believe in their own beauty around the globe.”

Duckie Thot is definitely a great representation of #BlackGirlMagic in full effect and making a difference. Congrats to her and continue to slay the runway!
