Yandy Smith is gearing up for a new role in life and shared the special moment with her social media followers.

“I met @tooiinfinityandbeyondwhen she was in 7th grade speaking at her school, never thought 3 years later I would be in the process of becoming a foster mommy to her. Not totally cleared yet but I’m approved to start the process,” Smith wrote in her caption.

On Thursday the “Love & Hip Hop” star posted a video of her and her mentee Infinity Gilyard as they left the family court building in New York. The two had just completed one of several steps in the foster care process, where Smith has asked to be the sole caretaker of the teen.

As they walk out of the building the teen is clearly emotional, crying happy tears.

If all goes well, Smith’s family will now include three children, she is the mother to her son Omere, 6, and daughter Skylar, 3, with her husband, Mendeecees Harris.

Smith said the journey has changed both of them for the long haul and thanked God for a new perspective on life.

Critics in the comments berated the reality star over posting the video, but Yandy explained she only posted it with Infinity’s blessing.

“I’m sharing this with you all because she wanted me to,” Smith said. “She wanted mentors out there to know the impact they could have in changing the trajectory of a child’s life.”

Infinity’s social page is also littered with images of her and Yandy together. “I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. It don’t get any better than this,” the teen wrote under her most recent Instagram photo. “You’ve taught me so much in so little of time & I can’t wait to be a mentor to other young ladies such as myself. I really appreciate all that you’ve done for me!!

Smith also began another Instagram page called @FromYandytoInfinity to document their new journey.
