If anyone should make a documentary about video vixens, it should be BET. With MTV slow to showcase Black videos and with platforms like “Uncut,” BET can speak to several eras of the video vixen, from models to strippers.
The new documentary will tackle all of that, including perspectives from perhaps the most famous vixen-turned author Karrine Steffans. Melyssa Ford, Buffie the Body and Gloria Velez will also share their stories about what it was like to experience the rise and fall of video vixen culture.
In addition to the role these women played in the videos we loved, the documentary will also tackle issues of harassment and misogyny in the business as well.
The first episode of Vixen will be available today on BET.com, the BET YouTube Channel and the BET Now app with a second and third episode premiering on July 11 and a third on July 12.
The full documentary will be available on July 13.
