When we learned that the child Dominque Perry was expecting would be the daughter of her “Insecure” co-star Sarunas Jackson, we wondered how those two got together. Mostly because they seemed like an unlikely couple. But the proof is in the baby. And during a recent sit down with Houston, Texas’ 97.9 The Box, Perry talked about raising her new daughter Zen, dating in Hollywood and how she and Sarunas started dating. See what she had to say in the excerpts below.
On Motherhood
“It’s been amazing. She’s only a couple of weeks old. These couple of weeks have been a learning process, trying to learn how to be a new mom but still try to get my snapback back. It’s a lot. But it’s beautiful. I’m just in awe with her.”
On Sarunas Jackson
It was after. It wasn’t romance brewing on the set at all. He was like, ‘Ima hit you up after your name’s off the call list.’ That’s what he said. “
On dating in the industry
I don’t really date in the industry. In Los Angeles, the dating is a little bit different. The dating is trash. Being from the south, and uprooting up there, you realize the sistas ain’t really getting a lot of love out there. It kind of makes it easy and you be like, ‘Well I ain’t dating because they ain’t trying to date me.’ And it doesn’t matter how beautiful you are. I see so many beautiful sistas just walking alone out there. And I be like, ‘What is going on?’ So it’s been really easy for me just to focus on my career and just keep it going because the dating pool isn’t like how it is where I’m from. It’s not really that many choices. And especially in the industry, the guys in the industry, it’s not a lot of choices. Oh, it’s hard.”
