Having “daddy issues” is a stigma that’s come to be synonymous with a woman whose father wasn’t present in her life and whose behavior, which some may deem questionable, has come to be viewed as explainable solely by the absence of her dad. But the truth is, you could’ve grown up with a father in the home throughout your entire childhood and still have so-called daddy issues. That’s because the presence of a man in the home doesn’t guarantee the perfect parenting example, just like the omission of a father figure doesn’t guarantee a daughter (or son) will be promiscuous, angry, bitter, or any other stereotype we’ve chosen to label fatherless individuals.

In this episode of Listen to Black Women, we discuss the reality of daddy issues and how anyone can be affected by a bad father. We’ll share insights from you, our audience, about what you had to say on our latest poll. And we’ll also share a conversation with a licensed therapist, S. Tia Brown, who is also an editor for CassiusLife.com, on how to navigate daddy issues and begin to repair your spirit and relationship with your father.
