K. Michelle has gone through four different surgeries since the year 2018 started to deal with the silicone injections in her body. She’s had liposuction (it was one of the initial procedures done to test the best ways to remove the small silicone gel pieces), needed multiple blood transfusions, dealt with necrosis and been resigned to a wheelchair in the midst of trying to heal. With one more surgery to go in August to reconstruct her behind, the singer is looking forward to the future, and already doing the work to feel confident in the body she has now. She admits it’s not like the hour-glass figure she was going for years ago that she had for years, and not like the look she had before the hydrogel injections.

“I wanted to look like a Coke bottle,” she told PEOPLE about her reasoning for changing her body in the first place.

Still, after her ordeal, she’s just fine with what she has now.

“I’m happy with my body. It’s nowhere near the ideal that I had before, but when it’s all said and done, it’s going to be my body,” she said.

“I’ve gone through a physical transformation, a mental transformation, I think I’m more tough,” she added. “I’ve always been a fighter and able to survive but it’s made me pay attention to other people around me and all the things I take for granted. Now, I don’t take a minute for granted. And hopefully this [transformation] will go on through the rest of my life and not just through this healing process, but so people can tell the difference in my fight. It’s even stronger.”

K’s feelings about how her natural body is now are not new. Over the last few months, she’s been showing herself all kinds of love as she gets back to feeling like herself.

“There’s nothing like a natural booty,” she said on Instagram recently. “There’s nothing like being healthy! Put it like that.”

“I looked in the mirror today and didn’t look like a sexy ant!” she joked in another. “I’m so tiny and cute. And this butt of mine is all mine and i’m still bootylicious naturally.”
