It started off simple and seemingly sweet enough.
Ta’Kari Lee, 28, posted a birthday message in honor of her little sister and Basketball Wives recurring face, Chantel Christie, 25. They had not been in contact for some time, but Lee still wanted it to be known that she was thinking of Christie on her birthday. Call it an olive branch of sorts.
“I don’t care what’s going on or what have [sic] changed,” she wrote on Instagram. “What will always remain the same is my LOVE for you.”
But Christie wasn’t buying it. In a surprising response, the star criticized her sister for her “poor decisions” and “public shenanigans,” allegedly against her and their mother, Jackie Christie.
“I’ll start by saying thanks, because it’s the polite thing to do, but to be honest…you easily could’ve text me this, accompanied by a personal apology for all the sh-t you’ve said and done, both publicly and privately,” she wrote in a comment on Lee’s original birthday message.
“I’m not with the public shenanigans anymore, that’s why I’ve been quiet. I don’t have no ill wishes toward you but this ain’t genuine and you know that. You put this up for your followers and the blogs. So you can carry this sad, sappy charade like nobody gives a f–k about you, don’t want nothing to do with you etc. I’VE BEEN THERE for you and dare you to say otherwise. I stopped f–king with you off the strength of YOU and YOUR poor decisions. Has nothing to do with Mom. We all know how I get down. if I wanted to speak, I would. But the same way you don’t wanna forge a fake relationship with her, I don’t wanna forge a fake ingeninue [sic] one with you. I haven’t done sh-t to you. So how I got included in your mess and hit in the crossfire idk. If you wanted me to hate our mom for the rest of my life, it isn’t gonna happen. Forgiveness is paramount. Moving forward is necessary. WE only get one Mom. Bashing her in the media moves us forward in what way? It gives you public sympathy and support AND THEN WHAT? Exactly. Birthdays, holidays etc being missed cause you wanna be in the media acting goofy. YOU call me when you [sic] ready to be real and own up to the sh-t TAKARI has done. Not Jackie. TAKARI. Until then, please don’t speak about me, on the internet or otherwise.”
In response, Lee said, “I been texting and snap chatting her for a year and she ignores it lol pictures, texts and videos of her niece and nephews but whatever…”
In an interview Lee did with us in May, the mother of four made a similar claim about being shut out by Chantel.
“I sent a couple of pictures of the kids to test the waters, and like you said, no response,” she said. “I’m not going to force anyone to do anything. I don’t know what her issue is with me, but I’m fine with that.”
While Lee’s relationship with mom, Jackie, has been tepid for years, and she still says that she hadn’t heard from her mother after her son (whom the Basketball Wives vet hasn’t met) was burned at his daycare, she told us she held no negative feelings toward her sister.
“I haven’t spoken to her in about a year, but I’m always going to be good with my sister,” she said. “I’m always going to protect Chantel. She’s my sister. There is no wrong. She’s done nothing to me, so I don’t have an issue with my sister. I’m good with her.”
Guess not.
