Rihanna’s New Lingerie Line Savage x Fenty Is Just What We’ve Been Waiting For
At this point, many of us look to Rihanna for countless things: an interesting look on the red carpet at the Met Gala, shaking up the beauty industry with the launch of a 40-shade foundation range, or even as a guiding example on humanitarianism and activism. However, Rihanna is doing something new on the horizon, and honestly, it’s noteworthy: She’s coming out with a lingerie line.
On May 11, Rihanna’s first lingerie collection, Savage x Fenty, will drop. This is the part where we note that the line comprises of 90 pieces of lingerie, sleepwear, and accessories. There are four capsule collection within the line: On the Reg, U Cute, Damn, and Black Widow. On the Reg includes a variety of bras that are available in every shade of nude, along as T-shirt bras, undies, and other wardrobe essentials. U Cute plays up on the girlishness and lacy items we’ve come to see Rihanna sport a time or two, Damn boasts rompers, garter belt sets, and bodysuits, and Black Widow has everything from half-cut bras to open-back bikini bottoms. Oh, and apparently there are handcuffs (stay tuned.)
To a packed room of press Thursday night, Rihanna showed off the line, adding to the extreme ambiance with holographic images of herself modeling the collection to a sea of reporters and spectators. Okay, Rih!
Perhaps even more noteworthy than the expansive launch of this line and the seemingly respectable way in which Rihanna is handling every woman and her individual needs, is the fact that most women, no matter what size they are, will be able to have a piece of this lingerie pie. Bras will be available from a 32A to 44DD, and bottoms will range from a XS-3XL. While most brands are talking about inclusivity these days, Rihanna is actually living and breathing it one day at a time.
In an interview with Vogue, Rihanna assured us that this line is not for the significant other in one’s life, but rather for themselves. “I can only hope to encourage confidence and strength by showing lingerie in another light,” she said. “You don’t have to stick to one personality with lingerie; it’s fun to play around. You can be cute and playful one week and a black widow next week. You can take risks with lingerie. I want people to wear Savage x Fenty and think, I’m a bad bitch. I want women to own their beauty.”
While we can’t wait to see what happens, we have to say we’re undoubtedly intrigued. Hopefully Rihanna’s consistent push into the realms of fashion and beauty will make it so that one day, an inclusive line for women of color isn’t newsworthy. Where someone making a line that takes into account all women of all sizes want to feel feminine and sexy isn’t a commendable act — it’s just, well, what they do.
Nonetheless, we can’t wait to see and snag everything in this collection! What do you guys think? Are you excited to see what Savage is all about?
