And just like that, some people have gone from celebrating Michelle Williams’s engagement to Chad Johnson to trying to dig up dirt on him.

That was quick…

A few stories were published online claiming that Johnson, who is white, had shown support to Donald Trump in the past, with people coming to that conclusion based on tweets like this:

We don’t see it.

And Tariq Nasheed pointed out Johnson’s decision to follow certain Republicans on Twitter (Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan, Melania Trump and Senator Ted Cruz) as proof that he was of the “Make America Great Again” crew:

Still doesn’t technically prove anything.

As far as actual, tangible, questionable things discovered, Johnson does have some relatives who reportedly “Stand with the flag” and/or support Blue Lives Matter. But again, those are family members, not the pastor himself.

But Johnson would eventually respond to the claims against him through his Instagram stories. The pastor took to social media to say the following:

And while he didn’t emphatically confirm or deny claims he’s a Trump supporter, he shared an old Instagram post from around the same time as the “Authority” message to show where he stands, which seems to be on the side of “love”:

And if you look back through his Twitter, there isn’t much to prove that he doesn’t have the same concerns as everyone else:

As for Williams and what she thinks about all this dirt hoteps people decided to try and dig up, she responded to early claims Tuesday with a classy read. Via Twitter, she shared the definition of reading comprehension and basically asked her fiancé’s newfound critics to work on their own.

“R.I.F.” stands for “reading is fundamental.”

So with that being said, it sounds like she didn’t get the impression from any messages shared that Johnson was supporting anything pro-Trump. And since she’s happy and he seems to treat her well, that’s all that matters. Not to mention, her family approves. As she told KTLA, before he proposed he sought out the blessings of all of the people in her family whose opinions and input truly matter to her.

“He was chaplain for the Pittsburgh Steelers, so he told me he had to fly to had to fly to  Pittsburgh. I said. ‘Oh my gosh, is everything okay?’ He said, ‘I just got to fly to Pittsburgh.’ I said, ‘Okay cool.’ And so he actually flew to Chicago, got a rental car and drove two hours to my hometown in Rockford” she said. “I call it a proposal tour. He went to everyone’s home and got their blessings. And then they all met up at my aunt’s house for a big dinner. So, I was like ‘You were able to handle my family by yourself?’ And he did, and I just thought, my prayers have been answered, because I’ve always wanted my husband to be able to rock with my family, and them to rock with him. Meaning, embrace him, love him, and they did.”
