HelloBeautiful and MadameNoire have collaborated on a brand new digital talk show called Listen To Black Women that discusses the issues that affect us most and in today’s episode we’re asking the question: Are boycotts still effective in 2018?
With the Starbucks arrest that took place last weekend, many Black people are promising to boycott the coffee chain, a move we also saw earlier this year when H&M put a little Black boy in a sweatshirt deeming him the “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle,” and when Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the national anthem at football games. While the actions of some during these protests made a difference to these companies’ bottom lines, do boycotts bring about enough consequence to these industries to ensure certain incidents never happen again?
In this episode, we tackle that topic by sharing insights from you, our audience, and what you had to say on our latest poll. We’ll also dive into the larger social media discussion being had and discuss some think pieces around the Internet, including a conversation with our very own culture editor, Veronica Wells.
Tune in to the episode above and make sure you take our next poll to have your voice heard in the conversation.
