Issa Rae: “One Thing I Don’t Need Feedback On Is Who I’m Sleeping With”
Issa Rae has shared plenty with her fans over the years, whether through direct interviews or via her Awkward Black Girl series and Insecure which we know are at least somewhat based on the real-life experiences of the actress, writer, producer, and director. But one thing Issa has zero interest in talking to the world about is her romantic life, and she said as much in a recent interview with Marie Claire.
Issa is one of five “Fresh Faces” the mag has honored with a cover for its May issue. Riley Keough, Katherine Langford, Yara Shahidi, and Sophie Turner appear alongside Issa on newsstands in representing the new Hollywood regime. In talking about her journey from created a series on YouTube to now having a mega hit show on HBO, the 33-year-old said:
“I’m happy and grateful to be in a position where I can want to see something, and then support the people who are telling stories I want to see.”
But when it comes to people wanting to see stories about her personal life, Issa’s so not here for it.
“I get so much feedback about everything. The one thing I don’t need feedback on is who I’m sleeping with,” she said on keeping her private life private.
For some time there were rumors Kofi Siriboe and Issa had something going on — and the Queen Sugar star did plenty to fuel those headlines before, ultimately, revealing he’s dating model Duckie Thot. But Issa is standing firm on her stance regarding dating privacy. As she told Vogue earlier this year, “I don’t want any input. As a writer, you put everything on the table. I’ll take input on kids if I’m going to have kids. How do I not kill the kids? Work? Give me the input. Any other aspect of my life? Give me the input. But who I’m f-cking? No, I don’t need input. I’m good.”
