Alicia Keys has already crossed over from music to movies, but now she will be behind the big screen. She will reportedly be producing a biopic about choreographer Alvin Ailey. The songstress will be producing the film through her production company, AK Worldwide, alongside Susan Lewis, Judy Kinberg and Rachel Cohen and Jana Edelbaum from iDeal Partners. FOX Searchlight will also be on board and collaborating with  artistic directors from the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Robert Battle and Emerita Judith Jamison.

“We are thrilled to be working with these incredible partners to bring to the screen the amazing journey and revolutionary choreography of Alvin Ailey, whose life and legacy profoundly impacted people of all backgrounds around the world,” Battle said in a statement.

The Texas-born dance king founded the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in 1958 in New York and was best known for his “Revelations” modern dance piece, which is one the most performed in history. He received Kennedfy Centers Honors in 1988 and posthumously received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2014.

He died in 1989 of AIDS complications.
