“I Wish To Be Of Service To This Amazing Woman” Sterling K. Brown’s Secret To A Healthy Marriage Is Nothing Short Of Beautiful
If you thought it wasn’t possible to love Sterling K. Brown anymore it absolutely is. The “This is Us” actor recently stopped by ABC News to talk about his love for his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, which he does regularly — much to our delight — and his words are honestly the most beautiful thing we’ve heard in a long time.
Brown and Bathe have been married for 11 years and the 41-year-old said there are three concrete reasons their marriage has not just lasted for more than a decade, but thrived.
“We have a community that supports us,” he told ABC. “And one thing that I’ve learned for any relationship to be successful is the people who are part of your life, they have to champion your union. Not just you, not just her. They have to champion y’all. And we’re very thankful to have a community that champions us.”
The second reason the actor couple’s union is so strong is more of a personal philosophy. “Any time you find yourself too self-involved, then you’re doing something wrong, he stated. “You’re supposed to be living a life of service. And I wish to be of service to this amazing woman who makes my life possible to that end.”
We’ll pause for a moment while you grab tissues.
The third, and perhaps most important, reason Brown cherishes his wife and their relationship so much is because of the example set by his own parents before his dad passed away when he was 10.
“I could … remember they were having a house party and my mom gave me a note to give to my dad. I was like 5, 6 or 7,” Brown recalled. “[She said,] ‘Go give this to your dad.’ I was like, ‘Alright.’ I said, ‘Daddy, Mommy wanted me to give you this.’ And they disappeared from the party for like 20 minutes. Now 41-year-old Sterling is like oh snap! But they did kind of stuff, right? … They never stopped dating each other, which I think was really cool.”
