Kristoff St. John Returning To The Young And The Restless Following Four Month Mental Health Hiatus
Young and the Restless fans have a reason to celebrate. Kristoff St. John, known for playing the beloved character Neil Winters on the daytime soap since 1991, is set to return to the show after being on a hiatus for the last four months to take care of his mental health.
According to EW, the 51-year-old actor took a leave of absence in October and his character was last seen on the November 29th episode. St. John underwent psychiatric treatment after an incident where an ex called police and claimed he was threatening to harm himself. This occurred as the date of his son’s death (by suicide) approached. Officers went to St. John’s residence and removed two firearms from the home, and from there, he was hospitalized for 72 hours to undergo evaluation. Afterwards, he took time off to deal with his depression and the continuous grief over the loss of son Julian, who died in 2014.
But St. John is back in action at the Y&R. His character’s absence was reportedly explained by having Neil travel to New York to care of his son with character Sofia, following her car accident. EW says when new episodes air in April, fans will watch Neil try and adjust to the ways in which things have changed in Genoa City during the time he was absent.
Whatever the plotline, St. John made it clear on social media that he’s ready for whatever and glad to be back:
And he also let it be known that he’s keeping his head up from here on out:
