Spike Lee is one of the most prolific and recognizable directors out there. But before he started racking up the critical acclaim, he worked some odd jobs just to get by. After winning a student director’s academy award, given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a short film he created while in school, Lee was faced with making ends meet. He took a job at a movie distribution house where he cleaned and shipped film for $200 a week. Not glamorous by any stretch, but it showed Lee’s willingness to do whatever it took to achieve his goals and it certainly paid off.
