Angela Bassett appeared on CBS’ “The Talk” yesterday to promote the first season of Fox’s drama series, “9-1-1”. But as soon as the incomparable actress sat down in the hot seat, she was immediately asked about her marriage to fellow actor Courtney B. Vance. The two have been true #RelationshipGoals for years now, so it was only natural for the ladies to ask whether it was love at first sight.

Bassett immediately responded “No,” followed by a big laugh. She went on to explain, ” I mean, admiration, he was awfully cute, you know, we were in drama school together – and I was a little ahead of him in drama school and he came with a girlfriend, so no.” Apparently, Vance’s girlfriend got into the same drama school – Yale, that is – a school that only had a few slots, so there was no way either Bassett or Vance would have kindled anything at that time.

The 59-year-old was also asked about she and her husband’s decision to be celibate a year before their marriage, a concept in dating that you definitely don’t hear often. I assumed that this would be a foreign concept to younger people, but Sharon Osbourne was hilariously puzzled. She even asked Bassett if she pronounced the word “celibacy” correctly. Bassett confirmed that she got it right, and she went on to say how choosing celibacy has actually worked out for her marriage.

Bassett said, “It’s been 20 years. It went pretty well.  It worked out.” Osbourne tried to get the juicy details about her first experience with her husband after jumping the broom, but Bassett, in true queendom, did not entertain that. Instead, she said:

“I was a mature bride at the time, you know what I mean?…I do find that it’s easier to get to know the person, easier for them to get to know you, to have the experience without that. That cloudies the perspective and the mind sometimes, and you can get a little confused.”
