Tonie Wells, a 22-year-old woman, was found dead at the bottom of her home’s basement steps in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY yesterday while eight months’ pregnant. According to the New York Post, police suspect that her husband strangled her and pushed her down the stairs.

Tonie was already a mom to a two-year-old daughter, the cries of whom the neighbors claimed they could hear, sparking them to call the police. Wells was also found with bruising around her neck and ,as of now, investigators are treating this as a homicide.

The police weren’t able to immediately apprehend Tonie’s husband, Barry Wells, for questioning, but New York affiliate Pix 11 has reported that the 29-year-old is now in custody. Digging a little deeper, sources have said that police have been called to the couple’s residence at least once for domestic violence. And, oddly enough, this couple was featured on The Shade Room’s Instagram account during a time when the couple seemed happy. Back in August, Barry got a tattoo of his wife’s face on his back with the caption: “I wasn’t gonna post anything until our anniversary, but you let the cat out of the bag.  Early anniversary gift, plus it’s Wednesday.”

After hearing the news about Tonie’s death yesterday, The Shade Room posted this as an acknowledgement that things might not always be what they seem.

As this is a developing story, Barry has not been officially arrested, but he is a person of interest.
