We covered a story only a few days ago about Tiffany Haddish admitting that some things in her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, were “tweaked” by the editor. She goes on to say that the audiobook version gives a truer account of her story than the physical copy. However, the newly-minted New York Times bestselling author does not say to what degree the physical copy differs from the audiobook, nor has she said what parts of the physical copy were embellished.
But Haddish’s ex-husband, William Stewart is claiming that the Girls Trip actress not just embellished but blatantly lied about the physical abuse she said she suffered when married to him. In the book, Haddish said that Stewart was so jealous of her talking to another male comedian that he assaulted her in front of others:
“He grabbed me by the collar, he was like, ‘It’s time to go to the room now,’ in front of everybody. Just snatched me by my shirt, and pulled me to the elevator and threw me in it.”
“Once we got to our hotel room, he was so quick. He snatched me by the neck and slammed me into the wall.”
Haddish also shared that she suffered a miscarriage because of Stewart’s violent attacks.
In an attempt to clear his name, Stewart not only posted a few Instagram responses on The Shade Room, but he also felt the need to do an interview with V-103 in Atlanta to give his side of the story. He stated that, “I, William Stewart, have never beat or hit or called a woman an ‘MF’ or a ‘B’ while having a disagreement in my life. I never caused a miscarriage, and I have documents to prove this.”
He has not released said documents, but Haddish apparently has documents to prove that Stewart indeed assaulted her during their marriage — one being a restraining order that Radar obtained from the Los Angeles Superior Court filed in July 2011. The court documents include the incident she describes in her book of wanting to continue bantering with a fellow male comedian but Stewart having a problem with that.
“We were in Montreal, Canada, [in July 2010] when he choked me in the stairway of the hotel,” Haddish alleged in the filing. “I ran away from him. I ran because he was trying to make me stay in the room. But I wanted to stay in the lobby and talk to my fellow comedians.”
The 38-year-old said in the court documents that she suffered bruises on her neck from this assault. She described other incidents where she endured blows to her eye, elbow and back. The restraining order was granted, but it was temporary. Haddish dropped the order to work on her marriage, and two years later, she divorced Stewart.
The #SheReady comedienne has not publicly responded to Stewart’s denial as of yet. But her ex is also alleging that he received personal text messages from the starlet about a month ago giving him the heads up that the book was coming out. He goes on to say that he received a text from her “yesterday” with the message “Be patient. Big blessings are coming your way.” Clearly, this case-of-the-ex melodrama is not over yet.
