Two-Year-Old Boy Who Was Born Without Kidneys Found A Match And The Surgery Was Successful
The two-year-old boy who was born without kidneys can now start a new life. A match was reportedly found for AJ Burgess and he went into surgery earlier this week (Nov.22) for surgery and is currently healing and adjusting to life with his new organs,.
AJ’s father, Anthony Dickerson, was going to participate in the kidney transplant, however he was unable to go through with it due to being incarcerated for violating his probation in September. He was charged with possession of a firearm. AJ’s match is a donor who is deceased and the family will not know his identity until a year from now.
“It was an emotional moment to see something that we all hoped and prayed for all along to see it actually come to fruition. It was really an overwhelming moment,” said Mawuli Davis, the lawyer for the family.
Living without kidneys had been difficult for AJ and his family. He had frequent doctor’s visits and even suffered a stroke a few months ago.
Davis also stated that since having the surgery AJ has been showing great progress.
